Sanitation Worker

SUMMARY: Under close supervision, operates a truck and collection mechanisms to collect, compact and dispose of solid waste materials.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Operates controls for lifting dumpsters and containers and emptying them into the truck; compacts and unloads waste from truck.
• Performs preventive maintenance check including but not limited to checking lights and fluid levels, washes truck, and refills fuel tank.
• Supports driver in safety measures which includes backing and watching for hazards
• Supports the relationship between the City of Roswell and the public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with visitors and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work- related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, Training, and Experience:
High school diploma or GED equivalent AND six months’ experience working in sanitation or a recycling plant; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Knowledge Of:

• City and Department policies and procedures. Safety policies, practices, and procedures.

Skill In:

• Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with co-workers and the public.

Communicating effectively, both verbally and in writing; following instructions.

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
A New Mexico State Class D Driver's License is required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

Work is performed in a standard office environment.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:
o Must be able to pass a rigid background investigation including work history, criminal records, driving records, and other records deemed necessary. o Must pass a pre-employment drug screen administered by a City-designated facility. o Must pass a pre-employment physical examination administered by a City-designated facility.

CONDITIONS OF CONTINUED EMPLOYMENT:
Incumbents and candidates must have and maintain a satisfactory driving record and insurability in accordance with the City's insurance carrier.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $15.00 per hour
