Sales Trainee, Metal Packaging - Emerging Leaders Program

The Sonoco Emerging Leaders Program (ELP) is designed to help you develop leadership skills, gain technical knowledge, establish strong business skills, and understand Sonoco’s culture and processes.

The program is a blend of hands-on experiences and opportunities. Throughout the program you can expect to gain a better understanding of your leadership style and contribute to Sonoco through valuable project work.

Sonoco is a very diversified company. We have 16 business units, and most are looking to hire, including; Rigid Paper & Closures, Metals, Global Plastics, Flexibles, Paper, Recycling, Consumer Technology/R&D, Protective Solutions, Tubes & Cores, and more! Your time spent in the ELP will cover specific core objectives as follows (but not limited to):

• Technical Skills Training - Safety, Quality, Scheduling, Customer satisfaction

• Leadership Training – Supervisory skills, Performance Management, Mentorship

• Business Insights - Accountability, Execution, Risk Taking, Budgeting

• Culture Integration – including Communication, Collaboration, and Innovation

This specific ELP role as a Sales Trainee for our Metal Packaging Division will position you to be a successful Sales Representative with opportunities for future leadership in Sales.  

Joining our Metal Packaging Division as a Sales Trainee, you will immerse yourself in a comprehensive learning journey. You'll gain expertise in our broad product range, learn the sales process and techniques through ongoing training and coaching and develop skills in customer interaction and territory management.  Working closely with experienced professionals, you'll learn to assess customer needs, build relationships, and contribute to our business's growth trajectory. This role offers hands-on experience and a solid foundation for a successful and financially rewarding sales career.

We look for students who:

• Have or will obtain a Bachelor or Master’s degree in Business, Engineering, or Package Engineering by December 2023 or May 2024

• Previous internship experience (preferably with Commercial responsibilities)

• Proven leadership experience

• A strong desire and commitment to succeed in Sales

• Technical aptitude

• Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills

• A passion for continuous improvement

All ELP Associates must be open to relocation (immediately or in the future).

This position will be in Canton, Ohio or Broomfield, Colorado.

Although these positions are listed in specific locations, candidates will be matched based off their unique experiences and the specific location needs.  We ask that our Emerging Leader and Interns remain flexible in their location preferences. 

Compensation: 

The annual base salary range for Non-Technical Degrees is between $61,500 and $65,000. The annual base salary range for Technical Degrees is between $72,000 and $77,500.
