Safety Engineer
Fairwinds Technologies is looking for an experienced Safety Engineer to lead the program in evaluating designs, changes and modifications for system safety implications and recommending improvements where possible. This person will use engineering and scientific principles and procedures to support multiple teams internally and externally, as program requirements evolve. Additionally, the Safety Engineer will assist program personnel by providing subject matter expertise in developing processes and procedures for improved system safety and sustainment.
This position is contingent upon contract award.
Location: Remote with willingness to travel: 50% (Required)

Minimum Qualifications

- BS degree in a classical Engineering field with 5 years of experience, or 3 years with an MS in Engineering or related field.
- Experience in developing system safety analysis and have good knowledge of System Safety fundamentals.
- Familiarity with Software Hazard Analysis.
- Experience in developing Technical Manuals or Documents.
- Secret Security Clearance required.
Responsibilities:
- The Safety Engineer is responsible for coordinating with programs and other engineering teams to identify and document risks and potential resolutions associated with the various communication solutions.
- They will interact with program management on risk data derived from such activities as Hazard Analyses, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis, and Probabilistic Risk Assessments.
- The Safety Engineer will be responsible for the data collection, development, creation, and submission of the Safety Assessment Report (SAR).
- The Safety Engineer provides system safety expertise in participation with the subsystem Integrated Product Teams (IPTs).
- The Safety Engineer plans, prepares, and issues documentation to support logistics aspects of small and micro satellite terminals.
- The Engineer coordinates with other Engineering and logistics personnel on the development and management of studies and analysis on program assets to identify safety risks, which might impede upon training, testing and operations of terminals.
- The Safety Engineer works with other members of the team to develop documentation and reports that support all aspects of Human Factors Engineering (HFE) to help simplify and make system utilization safer.
- The Safety Engineer will work with writing staff to prepare all safety and Human Factors aspects of system training.
