Job Functions:
- Reviews preliminary engineering reports, plans, specifications, and other technical documents related to construction, operation, or maintenance of Class 1 and Class 2 dam projects to ensure compliance with the Bureau of Water Dam Safety Program regulations.
- Makes technical recommendations, issue approvals to operate, or takes other appropriate action, based upon findings of review.
- Conducts construction, final, and operation inspections of Class 1 and Class 2 dam projects with discretionary authority to take appropriate action based upon findings of inspections.
- Responds and investigates complaints received from the public; takes appropriate, immediate and follow-up actions.
- Assists the regulated community (engineers, operators, etc.) with advice regarding preparation and submission of engineering reports, engineering plans and specifications, monitoring reports, and other environmentally related documents.
- Initiates enforcement action by submitting enforcement referrals to the program enforcement section with supervisor's approval.
- A master's degree in engineering;
- OR a bachelor's degree in engineering, and one (1) year of experience in environmental engineering;
- OR a bachelor's degree in engineering, and two (2) or more years of experience as an engineer.

- May require:
- Daily travel throughout the state.
- Occasional overnight travel.
- Participation on the Environmental Response Team and is subject to on call or call back 24/7.
- Familiarity with Dam Safety methods and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Ability to prioritize and manage time effectively.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Driving Record: This position will require the operation of a state vehicle; therefore, any applicant must be able to travel daily throughout the state as program or region workloads demand. Applicants being considered in the final stages of selection for the position must possess a valid driver's license and will be required to provide a certified copy of a 10-year driving record.
