Safety Coordinator

The Minnesota Rural Electric Association (MREA), representing electric cooperatives in Minnesota (www.mrea.org ), is seeking qualified applications for the position of Safety Coordinator. This position reports directly to MREA’s Director of Safety Services and is a Minnesota based position. The Safety Coordinator position is a vital part of the safety services program that involves administrative duties, coordination of training and events, and conducting safety related training.

MREA fosters unity among and provides service and leadership to all of Minnesota’s 50 locally owned, nonprofit electric cooperative utilities.

The Safety Coordinator will:

• Carry out Safety Coordinator services for MREA members to include but not limited to: safety recordkeeping, inspection forms, safety committee facilitation.
• Develop and revise training programs.
• Conduct safety and technical skills training sessions
• Research and assess member safety needs.
• Assist with the Rural Electric Safety and Accreditations Program (RESAP)
• Assist with the Commitment to Zero Phase 2 program.
• Assist in the development of workshop and conferences.
• Promotes MREA culture by actively participating in association events and activities.

Knowledge is typically acquired through 2 - 7 years of experience in safety related programs. Relevant education could include Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Safety and Loss Control (CLCP), Certified Utility Safety Professional (CUSP) programs, or post-secondary education in related fields. Lineworker experience is a plus but not a requirement.

In-depth knowledge of regulations, policies, procedures, practices, work methods, and reporting requirements that apply to safety in the electric utility environment. Knowledge of NESC, NEC, OSHA, DOT, and other federal, state, and local regulatory requirements. Familiarity with agency rules and regulations and their application to the workplace. Knowledge of electric theory, power transmission and distribution systems, and operating principles and practices is preferred.

Must be able to work outside regular business hours when required to attend meetings and/or interact with various groups. Extensive travel is required, including overnight stays. Time in the MREA office is required when the schedule allows. Residence within the state of Minnesota.

Must be able to handle interactions with various groups that may not agree with each other and have the ability to lift and carry 50 pounds.
