Purpose
The Safety Coordinator reports to the Director EHS. This person supports our Safety Department and facilities by coordinating the company's safety programs to ensure compliance with all Federal, State and local OSHA regulations and company policies. The Safety Coordinator is also responsible for coordinating program functions to ensure that all paperwork is processed and filed in a timely manner and in accordance with company policy.
KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS
- Ensure safety compliance in the plants to Federal, State and local health and safety standards.
- Conduct routine and follow-up safety and hazard inspections of facilities.
- Handle unsafe work conditions and practices through workplace auditing. Document the findings, identify appropriate actions to be taken, and follow through on ensuring abatement of individual issues.
- Assess employee safety training needs, create and implement use of training materials or outsource as necessary.
- Maintain records of facilities inspections, corrective actions, training documentation, and appropriate document control.
- Ensure that Lock-Out-Tag-Out-Verify program is taught and used 100%.
- Promote and work effectively with management and hourly team members. Mentor team leaders and other personnel to become actively involved in committee matters.
- Work with Workers Compensation carrier to conduct cost effective and relevant handling of all workers compensation claims. Document, report and track claims per company policy and State regulations.
- Obtain and maintain certifications for conducting training programs such as Powered Industrial Trucks, Scissor Lifts, Fall Protection, etc.
- Maintain certifications in CPR/AED/First Aid and support plant/company initiatives in training.
- Assist in the development and implementation of safety and environmental programs, policies and procedures in multiple areas of operations in the facilities.
- Assist in the development and help conduct the training required for all employees in all areas of health and safety standards.
- Assist in the investigation of accidents and incidents to identify their root causes and to determine how they might be prevented in the future and to analyze for trending.
- Assist in completing all required documentation, paperwork, and recordkeeping.
- Assist with coordination of inspections, assessments, surveys, and program evaluations to identify potential hazards, and ensure compliance with all applicable safety and environmental rules.
- Assist EHS Director in all safety and environmental compliance regulation needs.
- Assign, bolster and track attendance at monthly safety training sessions.
- Assign and track attendance at safety training sessions for Miracapo locations.
- Other duties as assigned.
COMPETENCIES.
- Ability to develop, implement and enforce safety programs and protocols.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to gather data, compile information and prepare reports and required documentation.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
- 4-Year College Degree or related field experience equivalent to the degree.
- Bilingual (Spanish & English).
- 30 Hour OSHA for General Industry Certificate.
- Experience dealing with regulatory agencies (i.e. OSHA, EPA, etc.).
- Competent in the Microsoft Office Suite of products (Word, Outlook, Excel).
- Experience in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or related field.
- Safety degree is a plus
