Lake Forest High School is seeking a 10 Month Safety and Security Officer.
Description: Under the management and direction of the Safety and Security Director, the Safety and Security Officer provides a safe and secure environment for students, staff and visitors at the East and West Campuses of Lake Forest High School. Position is responsible for patrolling the school and campus facilities, staffing internal and external screening posts, protecting school assets and investigating violations of school board policies on school property and at school-sponsored events. Position rotates duties among several work stations throughout each day, as assigned.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Patrols and monitors assigned areas, grounds and parking lots to deter, detect, stop, investigate and report unauthorized or suspicious persons, vehicles and activities.
2. Reports all hazardous and dangerous conditions that may affect the Safety and Security of students, staff and visitors.
3. Maintains the orderly flow of vehicle, bus and pedestrian traffic in the parking lot and during student arrival and departure times.
4. Checks vehicles for proper parking authorization. Determines if vehicles are parked in assigned areas.
5. Coordinates traffic and parking for special activities and events on campus.
6. Performs daily walk through inspections of facilities to ensure doors/gates are opened and secured at designated times.
7. Assists administrators and staff during emergency and crisis response situations.
8. Works with school administrators to identify students violating school board policy.
9. Assists with the implementation of safety drills and other emergency response protocols.
10. Monitors surveillance cameras to observe campus activity in designated areas.
11. Establishes security presence during evening events such as home football games, basketball games, open house, dances, graduation, etc.
12. Maintains a professional demeanor at all times and develops positive relationships with students, staff and community members.
13. Screens visitors at the Welcome Centers through the Visitor Management System.
14. Maintains security records, logs and reports.
15. Makes recommendations to address deficiencies and improve school Safety and Security.
16. Attends and successfully completes all staff development training as required by state law or as directed by Safety and Security Director or School Administration.
17. Abides by School District policy and Safety and Security Department guidelines and directives.
18. Reads and responds to email communications.
19. Safely operates a vehicle in all traffic conditions.
20. Protects confidentiality of records and information about students, staff and school operations.
21. Serves as team player and role model for other employees in the organization; demonstrates a commitment to continuous quality improvement; supports and exhibits organizational core values of caring, respect, integrity, professionalism and responsibility, values diversity and demonstrates sound problem solving and responsible decision making skills.
22. Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisor, principal or other designated administrator.
Qualifications:
- Must possess a high school diploma (or equivalency) with some experience or training in a security related field or any equivalent combination of education and experience that would provide the noted knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Must possess knowledge of, and the ability to apply, standard security procedures and best practices.
- Must possess the ability to acquire knowledge of School Board policies and procedures and Student Rights and Responsibilities.
- Security experience in a public school setting is preferred.
- Must possess the ability to communicate well with others.
- Must have basic computer skills using Google Office Suite programs.
- Completion of college-level courses in the area of security, psychology, emergency management, or criminal justice preferred.
- Must possess excellent human relations skills.
- Must possess a valid Driver's License with limited Criminal History.
Compensation: $17.85 per hour to start, depending on experience. Stipend for Retired Law Enforcement Officers.
