The Safety & Security Officer- Float ensures there is a safe, protected, and secured environment throughout the business units and corresponding assigned locations by patrolling and monitoring corresponding premises. As needed, he/she will provide guidance and direction to staff, visitors, and patients when arriving to the unit and during times of distress. During times of distress, will monitor incident operations and inform Key Leadership of findings.
Essential Functions:
- Identifies actions to mitigate risks and hazards with the greatest potential for serious accident or injury.
- Ensures the safety, welfare, and accountability of assigned incident personnel.
- Investigates, or coordinates the investigation of, accidents occurring within the incident are taking place.
- Conducts safety analyses and prepares reports on all incident facilities and locations, as necessary; communicates safety issues or concerns to incident personnel at shift briefings.
- Determines the need for subject matter experts or technical specialists to advise on or oversee unique safety
- issues or hazards, such as confined space, hazardous materials (HAZMAT), infectious diseases and so on.
- Receive float assignments, notifications, reporting locations, reporting time, and travel instructions from Supervisor or Director in support of assistance required and where/whom to go for support.
- Maintains reliable radio communications at all times and in support of active mission/incident.
- Maintains ICS/EOC Leadership informed at all times.
- Completes required forms and operational documentation properly and proactively.
- Conducts scheduled and impromptu walk-throughs as well as security inspections throughout the premises.
- Acts as a liaison between patients and medical staff, providing guidance and direction for patients and visitors upon arrival to location.
- Monitors surveillance camera system.
- Investigates, reports, and follows up on suspicious activity on the property.
- Ensures only authorized personnel access restricted areas.
- Leads efforts to de-escalate inappropriate behaviors.
- Contacts law enforcement or fire department in cases of emergencies.
- Capable of subduing unruly, aggressive, and/or baker-acted patients as instructed by medical personnel.
- Escorts terminated staff, and parties who are trespassing on the premises.
- Interfaces with vendors, contractors, and suppliers scheduled to perform work on the premises.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Receive all incoming radio & telephone inquiries and requests for assistance regarding patient transports and refer all appropriate requests (by guidelines) to appropriate transport staff.
- Demonstrate a clear understanding of LifeTrans requirements, call receiving procedures, and appropriately route calls to the transport team.
- Communicate in a clear, concise, friendly, and professional manner with all callers, transport teams, requesting agencies, hospital staff and physicians.
- Maintain accurate records regarding computer documentation, according to LifeTrans Policy/Procedure.
- Operate all vendor applications as expected. Operate base station radios, conducting and coordinating all radio communication in a professional manner.
Education:
- High School Diploma or a GED
- Associates Degree preferred
Experience:
- 3+ years of experience as a Safety and/or Security Officer; Healthcare experience preferred.
Licensure:
- Valid Driver’s License required.
