Summary

Our Mt. Vernon team is looking for the next Safety leader! The Safety and Security Manager leads all safety & security efforts for assigned Mt Vernon, Washington manufacturing facility by maintaining a world-class culture through continually improving safety processes. Technical expert partnering with operation leadership to deliver operational results through impactful safety, health, and Security solutions. 

 

This position has a target salary range of $85,000 - $115,000 and is eligible for comprehensive benefits as well as relocation support, as applicable.

Principal and Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Leads all safety & security efforts for Mt Vernon, Washington manufacturing facility with 500+ associates, supports safety in conjunction with primary non-collocated safety manager for 10 non-manufacturing facilities (60+ associates).
  • Directly leads & manages daily activities and personnel matters of 1 facility hourly/salaried safety personnel and 4 to 7 security contract personnel to ensure resources are effectively and consistently employed in the organization.
  • Leads facility security team/guard force in managing security processes to include: developing/ administering site security practices and policies, supporting and tracking required KPI's including training objectives, and timely completion of site surveys and or audits.
  • Provides technical expertise for cross functional teams to ensure safe operational processes and capital/engineering projects. Collaborates with functional experts in vehicle safety, corporate security, environmental, PSM, and other areas to align facility activities and objectives. Provides interpretations for OSHA, NFPA, DHS, DOT, and other pertinent regulations to ensure processes and policies comply with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Interacts regularly with the hourly work force to promote safety awareness and works to resolve their safety issues and concerns. 
  • Leads site safety business plan development by analyzing relevant data and tracking/reporting facility and corporate KPIs/metrics.  Validates plan's actions through internal Safety and Security auditing tracking findings through closure.
  • Provides training support to the organization and ensures that all required safety training is effectively completed on time.
  • Ensures effective investigations on all Safety and Security incidents are completed, participating actively during complex and high impact investigation. Ensure root cause is determined and appropriate corrective actions developed, tracking recommendations to closure.  Utilizes incident data to develop action plans to address hazards and emerging trends.
  • Liaisons for 3rd party assessments, audits, & inspections, i.e. insurance carrier, local fire department, risk engineering firms, OSHA, DHS, etc.
  • Maintains working relationship with permanent and temporary contractors to validate their safe work practices and supports their activities to maintain a superior safety environment at the facility.
  • Builds relationship with occupational health to improve worker safety, associate wellness, and case management for supported sites.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelors degree in Safety, Business Management, or related field.  In the absence of a degree, directly related work experience may be considered. Our ideal candidate will have: 

  • 7+ years of progressively increasing safety & security responsibility with 3 - 5 years related experience in a manufacturing environment. 
  • Demonstrated ability to self-direct work with minimal guidance and oversight. 
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with hourly workforce, technical personnel, senior management, contractors, and regulatory agencies. 
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with proficient use of Microsoft office suite. 
  • Ability to analyze and synthesize data to support safety initiatives. Highly developed planning and organization skills.
  • Detailed knowledge of health and safety regulations issued by OSHA, workers compensation and other governmental agencies. 
Experience Preferred

Multi-facility industrial safety experience; direct personnel management experience, professional safety or security certifications; bi-lingual capabilities; expert knowledge of health and safety disciplines as related to food processing.

Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements

Position is mostly sedentary but may require occasional moving to other offices or buildings.

May need to move light equipment or supplies from one place to another.

May need to access files, supplies and equipment.

When in a plant environment:

  • Exposure primarily consists of wet and moist floors which include metal and plastic grating surfaces.
  • May be exposed to temperatures of 28 degrees to 100 degrees Fahrenheit with both ambient and 100% humidity.
  • May handle product 25 degrees to 50 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • May be exposed to noise ranges of 50 db to 110 db.
  • May be exposed to all chemicals used in poultry, food, processing facility.
  • Must wear and use protective and safety equipment required for the job as directed by the Company
