This position is located on the TEST 3 contract, located at White Sands Test Facility (WSTF) in Las Cruces, New Mexico.

The TEST 3 Safety and Mission Assurance Department Manager reports directly to the SLI TEST3 Program Manager.
The S&MA Department Manager is responsible for the following elements of the NASA JSC TEST 3 contract:
- Quality assurance including work document coordination, process verification, test data acquisition and reporting, datapack processing, acquisition quality assurance, maintenance of the corrective action system, and records and database management.
- Emergency services, which include fire prevention, protection, and emergency response services to protect WSTF.
- Manages all aspects of Safety and environmental compliance, including system safety, operational/industrial safety, industrial hygiene and non-hazardous waste management.
- All ordnance operations on the site including purchase, receipt, storage, inspection, and maintenance of all ordnance; providing all ordnance training; and onsite disposal of waste explosives.
The SLI TEST 3 Safety and Mission Assurance Department Manager is responsible for the following:
- Serves as primary counterpart to the NASA WSTF Material and Components Chief
- Defines department-level TEST 3 goals and objectives consistent with WSTF goals and objectives
- Defines continuous improvement opportunities
- Ensures accurate resource planning for maximum effectiveness
- Participates as a member of the Management Council and Safety Council
- Oversees creation and maintenance of S&MA program schedules and strategic plan
- Responsible for the training and development of assigned personnel
Required
- BS degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Industrial Hygiene, Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Public Health
- 10 + years managing the S&MA function in research and development, manufacturing, or similar environment
- Advanced knowledge of industrial hygiene, safety engineering, health physics, and environmental compliance
- Knowledge of EHS standards and experience in conducting EHS audits and EHS training programs
- Experience in managing Quality Assurance programs
- Excellent written and oral communication skills with emphasis on maintaining positive business relationships within all levels of the organization
- Ability to follow the safe practices and rules contained in the SLI Corporate Safety and Health Plan and other such rules and practices
Desired
- Knowledge of regulations and guidance documents from OSHA, EPA, CDC, ACGIH, NIOSH, NFPA, AIHA, ASHRAE, etc.
- Experience with OSHA voluntary programs such as VPP
- Experience in evaluating emergency services (fire fighters and EMTs) in support of organizations
- Knowledge of NASA client, rules, and regulations
- Government contract experience

- Certified Safety Professionals (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) certification
