Job Title: RTI Literacy Specialist
Department: Special Services
Reports To: RTI Literacy Coordinator
Compensation: $72,500
TRS Classification: Non-Classified
Summary:
The ELL/MLL/ESL/ELD/ESOL RTI Literacy Specialist will work extensively with MDI/Principal teams and teachers to improve students' English language acquisition in order to become proficient in English through grammar, reading, writing, speaking, and listening. The RTI Literacy Specialist will offer support using essential components of structured literacy instruction and cross-linguistic exercises for English Language Learners, including phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and written expression for ELL/MLL/ESL/ELD/ESOL students. The specialist will assist teachers in tracking RTI data necessary for monitoring student progress and determining if more intensive services and support are needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Consult frequently with administration and instructional staff on matters relating to ELL/MLL/ESL/ELD/ESOL reading and writing instruction using benchmarks, screening assessments, diagnostics, and progress-monitoring data.
  • Assist teachers and other instructional staff in developing strategies, skills, tools, and techniques to effectively teach all ELL/MLL/ESL/ELD/ESOL students, including modeling lessons, observations, and constructive feedback.
  • Assist teachers in utilizing assessments and data to deliver scientific, research-based ELL/MLL/ESL/ELD/ESOL interventions targeting individual student needs.
  • Participate in student data review meetings to help support and train on the RTI framework, including intervention, progress monitoring, and decision-making protocols.
  • Assist with the implementation, training, data analysis and interventions related to HB2804 Universal Screening for Characteristics of Dyslexia.
  • Facilitate regular meetings with the Multi-language Department, Curriculum and Content Coaches, and ELA Plus to align ELA services across teams better, identify gaps in services, and collaboratively develop additional services identified as a need.
  • Facilitate and assist in the ongoing training of the ELA interventionists, including evaluating the effectiveness of the services in collaboration with the MDI and principals.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • No supervisory responsibilities

Education and/or Experience
  • Masters Degree preferred
  • Reading Specialist certification, CALT, or CALT Trainee, CERI Certification, Educational Therapist certification or other Orton Gillingham Training (Take Flight, AP, Wilson, IMSE), and/or Literacy Interventionist training required
  • Current and appropriate OK teaching license in Early Childhood, Elementary Education, Special Education, or Bilingual education.
  • TESOL Certification preferred

  • Knowledge of universal screening and diagnostic assessments.
  • Increasing levels of targeted support for those who are struggling.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based strategies and the Science of Reading.
  • A school-wide approach to student support.
  • Have in-depth knowledge of data collection and progress monitoring.
  • Knowledge of how to monitor student progress to determine what interventions are needed.

Language Skills
The person in this role must be bilingual in English and Spanish. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to communicate effectively with students, families and coworkers, both verbally and in writing. Ability to effectively present information to students, families, and supervisors.
Mathematical Skills
Basic math skills required
Reasoning Ability
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Google applications, Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Experience with EdPlan preferred. Must have a high aptitude to learn new software as necessary for the business operations of the school.

This position is remotely based and also must travel to various Epic sites. This requires spending a significant amount of time in the car, driving in various conditions and at various times of day. The noise level is quiet to moderately loud (when students are present.)
