JOB SUMMARY
The Unit Based Clinical Educator will assess, plan/develop, implement, and evaluate learning/resource needs related to orientation and continuing education needs of the assigned unit. Coordinates with Hospital Educators and Nursing Managers/Directors to develop and present educational programs designed to maintain, enhance, and assess job performance and competencies for Nursing Service employees. Participates in and tracks attendance for annual staff competency programs. Supports patient education initiatives as appropriate. Encourages and supports participation in Nurse Residency program classes and tracks attendance. Conducts observations and takes a ‘hands on’ approach to maintain knowledge of positions and assess needs of staff and/or unit. Participates in evaluation process by documenting performance of all staff members. The Unit Based Clinical Educator will have a full patient assignment as unit needs dictate and as directed by the Nurse Manager or Director. Other duties to be assigned and supervised by the nurse manager including, but not limited to, assisting with quality/safety audits and precepting new employees. The UBE will also serve as adjunct faculty for WVJC.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor of Science Degree in nursing preferred.
Experience: Knowledge of nursing normally acquired through specialized training or previous experience of three years. Demonstrated knowledge of staff development and program development. Excellent presentation skills, confidence, and poise in the training environment. Possesses group and team facilitation skills. Knowledge of accreditation standards, federal guidelines, healthcare organization standards and adult learning principles. Ability to communicate effectively with varied levels of staff. Effective interpersonal communication skills to effectively collaborate with physicians and instruct patients and their families. Knowledge of basic computer operations and use of word- processing and presentation software.
Must demonstrate good organizational skills to provide and support safe and appropriate patient care; Must utilize good judgment and superior problem-solving skills with positive and professional communication with internal and external customers.
Licensure/Certification: Current licensure as a registered nurse from the West Virginia State Board of Nursing. Must possess current BLS certification, which is renewed every two years. Must possess current ACLS certification or acquire within one year of employment start, which is renewed every two years.
