PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY: A registered nurse with responsibility to assist the Nurse Manager and nursing staff in ensuring compassionate, safe, quality care for patients and families, and managing and influencing clinical nursing practice, the interdisciplinary team and the environment in which care is provided. Acts as a resource, role model and clinical leader for the Patient Care team.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Practices within the established policies and procedures of Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. Serves as a clinical resource regarding policy and procedures, patient standards, performance improvement and risk management issues.
- Expresses self orally in individual or group situations in a manner that delivers the message to nursing staff and other health professionals in an accurate and appropriate manner.
- Maintains open communication to health care providers and other supportive departments in order that quality Patient Care will be delivered.
- Approaches Patient Care team interactions with fairness, consistency and objectivity and supportive of a culture that enhances nursing performance, job satisfaction and Patient Care team retention
- Assesses patient needs and makes care recommendations based on the patient’s physical, psychosocial and cultural needs, age and functional status.
- Monitors staff schedules to ensure adequate staffing to meet Patient Care needs and maintain quality Patient Care. May authorize overtime or scheduling changes to fill shifts as necessary. Completes payroll in collaboration with Nurse Manager.
- Supports a multidisciplinary model of care delivery via communication in collaboration with other health care professionals; including facilitation of bedside and/or plan of care rounds.
- Follows up appropriately and effectively resolves customer and physician issues and complaints.
- Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the core values of the Hospital.
EDUCATIONAL/TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelors in Nursing degree required.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATION:
Current licensure in Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, within the guidelines of State Board of Nurse Examiners.
Certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support if assigned area is critical care. Certification in specialties is encouraged.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Three (3) years of nursing experience is required, demonstrated excellence in communication skills and demonstrated successful coordinate/management of program or project.
