Duties & Responsibilities- Perform independent research experiments under the direction of the principal investigator
- Perform echocardiography, RVSP measurement on the research mice and rats.
- Maintain mouse and rat colonies.
- Perform tissue/cell culture, molecular biology related experiments.
- Maintain and service laboratory equipment.
- Laboratory purchasing and budgeting.
- Manage biosafety requirements.
- Organize laboratory and implement procedures.
- Coordinate with building/facilities management, gas delivery, and other key research infrastructure.
- Participate in the acquisition of research funding by initiating and writing grant proposals.
- Participate or author articles in peer-reviewed journals, books, or chapter publications.
- Participate or present at meetings and conferences.
- May co-author and may co-present results with principal investigator at meetings or conferences.
- Supervise laboratory staff and regularly meet with laboratory trainees.
- Train graduate students, undergraduate interns, and other staff.
- Oversee SOPs for the laboratory.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of coordinating experiments, and completing analysis, statistics, and interpretation.
- Skilled in grant writing and manuscript preparation.
- Ability to design and conduct animal/rodent experiments and translational science.
- Ability to participate at scientific conferences and present findings.
- Bachelor's degree in pharmacology, physiology, biology, or a related field of study required.
- Minimum of five (5) years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Previous work with small animal research techniques, including attention to detail and record keeping.
Experience with basic molecular biology techniques, such as RNA isolation, electrophoresis and qRT-PCR.
Expertise with immunological methods such as western blotting, immunofluorescence, immunohistochemistry analysis.
Experience with bioinformatics tools and analyses.
