Summary
The individual will serve as a Scientist within Tissue Research and Early Development (tRED) with a focus on demonstrating feasibility of new product concepts, characterizing new chemistries and process in early product development for a number of existing and new business areas including Primary Staining, Advanced Staining, and Next Generation Systems. The scientist will be responsible for designing, planning and executing laboratory Research and development experiments including feasibility testing, optimization, validation and troubleshooting to support existing products and development of new in vitro diagnostic assays. The scientist is expected to serve as a technical expert and resource, assess and develop new applications and technologies, and transfer them into full product development. The scientist will participate in cross functional team activities, collaborate and communicate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the project requirements are being met. The ideal candidate will be familiar with medical devices and development processes of automated tissue-based diagnostic assays including special stains, immunohistochemical, and/or in situ hybridization assays in a regulatory environment.
Responsibilities
- Initiate, direct and execute Research and development activities for products, methods and processes.
- Exercise technical expertise and discretion in the design, execution and interpretation of experiments that contribute to project strategies.
- Document experiments and results following company policies and procedures for GMP, GLP, Design Control and others as appropriate.
- Analyze data and provide conclusions obtained from Research and assay development laboratory experiments.
- Prepare technical protocols, reports, summaries, and quantitative analyses.
- Present and discuss results of experiments within the organization to business colleagues and project teams when appropriate.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
- The individual is expected to contribute and participate in general maintenance activities such as maintenance of equipment, managing lab waste.
Qualifications, Skills and Abilities
- PhD in Science, entry level, or Master's degree with 3+ years of relevant experience, or Bachelor degree with 8+ years of relevant experience.
- Strong knowledge and technical skills in chemistry, immunology, molecular and/or cancer biology.
- Read and critically evaluate literature in specialized scientific field.
- Demonstrate technical proficiency and scientific creativity to develop new technologies and solve technical problems.
- Excellent time management, planning, organization and problem solving skills.
- Ability to work on multiple projects/experiments simultaneously and prioritize.
- Highly motivated, self-disciplined and detailed-oriented with ability to work independently.
- Strong written, presentation and communication skills.
- Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet, database and email software.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with people, internally and externally.
