Job description

Job ID:
35080
Location:
450 Brookline Ave, Boston, MA 02215
Category:
Research Laboratory
Employment Type:
Full time
Work Location:
Onsite: 100% onsite
Overview
The Freed-Pastor laboratory at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Harvard Medical School is seeking a highly-motivated, creative, and collaborative full-time Research Technician to join their team. The Freed-Pastor lab investigates how pancreatic cancer escapes immune eradication by leveraging in vivo animal model systems and ex vivo organoid cultures. Using these molecular insights paired with robust preclinical evaluation, we work closely with clinical colleagues to bring the most promising basic science discoveries from the lab to the clinic.
Located in Boston and the surrounding communities, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute is a leader in life changing breakthroughs in cancer research and patient care. We are united in our mission of conquering cancer, HIV/AIDS and related diseases. We strive to create an inclusive, diverse, and equitable environment where we provide compassionate and comprehensive care to patients of all backgrounds, and design programs to promote public health particularly among high-risk and underserved populations. We conduct groundbreaking research that advances treatment, we educate tomorrow's physician/researchers, and we work with amazing partners, including other Harvard Medical School-affiliated hospitals.
Responsibilities
Specific duties will include:
  • Tissue culture using both 2D and 3D (organoid) systems
  • Extraction and analysis of DNA and mRNA, including PCR, quantitative PCR, molecular cloning
  • Animal studies including mouse colony management, breeding and genotyping
  • Assisting in animal surgeries and in vivo drug delivery
  • Microscopy, immunohistochemistry, and immunofluorescence
  • Flow cytometry, fluorescence-activated cell sorting (FACS)
  • Lentiviral production and viral titering
  • Data analysis and recording of results electronically and in a lab notebook
  • Protocol and literature searches
  • Evaluations of new assay methods or instrumentation
  • Working closely with a post-doctoral fellow who will serve as direct supervisor and mentor
  • Co-operating with a team of experimental and computational scientists
  • Ordering and stocking of lab supplies and reagents
  • Preparation of reagents and media used in lab experiments
  • Operation and maintenance of standard lab equipment
  • Occasional pick up/delivery of patient samples
Highly motivated and talented Research Technicians are expected to become gradually independent and may even eventually lead projects, for which there is strong precedent in the laboratory.
Qualifications
Minimum required qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in biology or a related discipline.
Candidates should be familiar with standard wet lab techniques (e.g. tissue culture, PCR, western blot, DNA/RNA purification) and motivated to learn new protocols.
The most important factors for success in this position are a desire to learn and a commitment to the team. The Research Technician will be paired with a postdoctoral fellow or graduate student to learn and assist on projects in the laboratory. The technician will also meet with Dr. Freed-Pastor to assess progress and receive guidance. The technician will also help with common lab maintenance tasks such as ordering supplies and aliquoting reagents.
At Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, we work every day to create an innovative, caring, and inclusive environment where every patient, family, and staff member feels they belong. As relentless as we are in our mission to reduce the burden of cancer for all, we are equally committed to diversifying our faculty and staff. Cancer knows no boundaries and when it comes to hiring the most dedicated and diverse professionals, neither do we. If working in this kind of organization inspires you, we encourage you to apply.
Dana-Farber Cancer Institute is an equal opportunity employer and affirms the right of every qualified applicant to receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, gender identity or expression, national origin, sexual orientation, genetic information, disability, age, ancestry, military service, protected veteran status, or other characteristics protected by law.
