Job ID:
39000
Location:
450 Brookline Ave, Boston, MA 02215
Category:
Research Laboratory
Employment Type:
Full time
Work Location:
Onsite: 100% onsite
Overview
The Lee Lab at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Harvard Medical School is recruiting a highly self-motivated individual to join as a full-time Research Technician. How do all the cells in our body have the same DNA but such different functions? Our cells have distinct abilities to develop into different organs, respond to tumor cells, or sense the world around us. This occurs because of gene regulation. Our lab research focuses on the role of gene regulation in establishing different cellular phenotypes and its contribution to cancer, specifically at the stage of mRNA translation. The candidate will be involved in both lab management and research activities, using a wide range of techniques, including molecular, computational, biochemical, and cell-based approaches. He/she will be expected to work independently with mentorship by a senior researcher in the lab, participate in lab meeting presentations, and be involved in collecting data for publications (with authorship if appropriate). Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills are essential.
This position requires a minimum bachelor’s degree in biology or related field. Must have at least one year of previous molecular biology lab experience. The ability to perform general molecular biology (PCR, cloning, bacterial transformation) and/or protein purification skills are highly preferred. Must have strong organizational and interpersonal skills, excellent time management skills, high level of initiative, and the ability to work both as a team player and independently.
Located in Boston and the surrounding communities, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute is a leader in life changing breakthroughs in cancer research and patient care. We are united in our mission of conquering cancer, HIV/AIDS and related diseases. We strive to create an inclusive, diverse, and equitable environment where we provide compassionate and comprehensive care to patients of all backgrounds and design programs to promote public health, particularly among high-risk and underserved populations. We conduct groundbreaking research that advances treatment, we educate tomorrow's physician/researchers, and we work with amazing partners, including other Harvard Medical School-affiliated hospitals.
Responsibilities
Learn advanced recombinant protein expression and purification techniques.
Maintain stocks of common laboratory proteins, including polymerase and protease enzymes.
Pursue an individual research project related to RNA biology, cancer biology, and gene regulation.
Learn advanced experimental design and be responsible for intellectual commitment to position and relevant literature.
Prepare common laboratory solutions, competent cells, and reagents.
Maintain a detailed notebook of protocols and research activities.
Participate in lab meetings and work closely with all lab members.
Clean and maintain laboratory equipment and work areas.
Assist in ordering lab supplies and communicating with vendors.
Assist in in lab safety and communicate and work with Environmental Health and Safety.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required in molecular biology, biochemistry or related field.
At least one year of laboratory experience.
Experience in molecular biology (PCR, cloning, bacterial transformation) and protein purification is preferred.
Must be reliable and organized.
Must be self-motivated to work independently, and work positively as part of a research group.
At Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, we work every day to create an innovative, caring, and inclusive environment where every patient, family, and staff member feels they belong. As relentless as we are in our mission to reduce the burden of cancer for all, we are equally committed to diversifying our faculty and staff. Cancer knows no boundaries and when it comes to hiring the most dedicated and diverse professionals, neither do we. If working in this kind of organization inspires you, we encourage you to apply.
