Form of workThe Department of Bioengineering is seeking a Research Technician Lab Manager. This position will assist and manage in interdisciplinary neuroscience and engineering research. The research will involve building next-generation multi-modal brain implantable probes and applying these in task-performing non-human primates (NHPs) (i.e.
rhesus monkeys) to uncover the neural mechanisms of learning, mood regulation, adaptation, and the pathological processes underlying neurodegeneration and mood disorders. This position involves leading management of animal (monkey and rodent) colonies including behavioral training, neural data collection and analysis, care and maintenance, and surgical procedures; managing laboratory inventory; assisting in the fabrication and characterization of novel arrayed neural probes; and manufacturing of customized hardware for our novel experiments. This position offers opportunities for personal development and participation in scientific experiments using advanced neurophysiological methods (e.g.
electrochemistry, electrophysiology, and microstimulation), microfabrication, electronics, veterinary protocols including animal care and neurosurgery, and behavioral training. The incumbent will be expected to be proficient in most of the above-mentioned roles and be able to manage and train other lab members. The incumbent will learn important research skills and have the opportunity to make contributions to the research projects including preparation and writing of manuscripts and proposals.
The incumbent must have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate clearly and professionally with other researchers, and with animal care and veterinary staff. The incumbent will also be responsible for ordering and managing the needed lab supplies for maintaining lab research operations.The candidate must have a B.S. or B.A.
in neuroscience, engineering, biology, animal science, or a related field. 3-5 years of experience with nonhuman primates and animal behavior and handling. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills required.
