The University of Pittsburgh is seeking a qualified Research Technician for performing induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs)/kidney organoids and zebrafish research projects. Must be willing to work with live animals. Knowledge with animal physiology, cell culture, biology, basic electronics, and computers a plus. Requires high degree of attention to detail. Organization and timeliness are key. Previous laboratory experience with cell culture or model organisms a plus. Employees in this role will be responsible for the following tasks:
• Zebrafish colony maintenance -basic care, scheduled and strategized breeding, utilization of a tracking system, animal staging, IACUC protocol management.
• Culture induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) and grow kidney organoids.
• Student supervisor - manage a team of student workers, effectively communicate, and instruct students, effectively utilize different students on various projects, mentor students for summer research projects, maintain quality of student data, remain updated on student trainings and certifications.
• Imaging responsibilities - prepare samples for imaging, harvest samples for imaging, properly store and preserve various biological samples, assisting in imaging.
• Lab responsibilities - maintain a safe work environment, adhere to all protocols for animals and lab safety, and ensure safety for all other lab members.
• An ability to work independently, exceptional organizational skills, and interpersonal skills are required.
