The Department of Molecular Biomedical Sciences at the NC State CVM trains veterinarians, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows in research-based careers focused on discovering new information about animal and human health and disease and using those findings to enhance animal and human health and wellbeing.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the coordination of research within the behavioral medicine laboratory.
The Battle lab examines digestive diseases through a developmental biology lens. Using cutting-edge molecular and cellular biology tools in the context of animal and organoid model systems, they seek to delineate fundamental mechanisms of gastrointestinal development and disease. The long-term goal is to apply the knowledge gained to gastrointestinal diseases, including short bowel syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease, metaplasia such as Barrett’s esophagus, and cancer, to generate new therapeutic drugs and engineered tissues for transplantation.Their group has strong connections with gastrointestinal researchers at UNC Chapel Hill and Duke University through the NIH funded Center for Gastrointestinal Biology and Disease (CGIBD).
