TITLE: Research Scientist
LOCATION: 6601 West Broad Street, Richmond VA 23230 (Telecommuting position with no geographic limitation as long as the worker is based in the continuous U.S.).
DUTIES: Responsible for evaluating the impact of tobacco product use in the population to advance regulatory and harm reduction efforts. Assess, mine, and analyze large internal and external datasets using statistical techniques to provide insights into tobacco consumer’s use behaviors and perceptions. Build predictive models, machine learning, and data mining algorithms to identify tobacco use trends and generate insights into tobacco consumer’s use behaviors for regulatory assessment and engagement. Implement existing computational models to assess the population health impact of new or existing tobacco products for regulatory applications and submissions. Collaborate with cross-functional teams and engage with internal and external researchers. Share data findings with partners and prioritize projects in a constantly evolving environment.
REQUIREMENTS: Requires a bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Data Analytics, Data Science, or a related quantitative field and at least 3 years of experience in a data statistics role within the consumer goods industry or a master’s degree or foreign equivalent in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Data Analytics, Data Science or a related quantitative field and 1 year of experience in a data statistics role within the consumer goods industry. Experience must include the following: Accessing, mining, and analyzing large databases (e.g. government databases) and public health data. Building predictive models, machine learning, and data mining algorithms to identify trends and generate insights. Using tools and techniques to visualize and monitor data in easy-to-understand formats, such as diagrams, graphs, and interactive dashboards. Interpreting statistical findings from analyses and drafting scientific narrative content for external engagement. Working with the following statistical software packages: SAS, R, Python or MATLAB.
Total Rewards:
The starting salary is based on but not limited to experience, knowledge, and qualifications in determining compensation decisions. The Salary Range for this position is: $86,200.00 - $125,050.00 / annually.
