Form of workProf. Huiwang Ai’s Lab in the Department ofMolecular Physiology and Biological Physics at the University of Virginia seeks a Research Scientist.
The focus of our lab is the development of Molecular biosensors that provide insights into cellular and organismal signaling. We employ state-of-the-art techniques such as directed evolution, fluorescence imaging, bioluminescence imaging, synthetic chemistry, genetic screening, and mass spectrometry to unravel complex biological pathways related to redox biology, metabolism, and neuronal activity. Furthermore, we explore the application of protein-based tools in live cells and rodent models to better understand pathoPhysiology and develop innovative therapies for conditions like diabetes, Alzheimer’s disease, and cancer.
We hope to hire a Research Scientist to characterize our new biosensors in animal models, use the new tools to understand questions related to neurobiology and Alzheimer’s disease, and develop new strategies to treat cancer. Previous experience in handling mice or using mice as a model organism is preferred.
Excellent written and verbal skills are expected.
The incumbents will participate in a diversity of relevant lab projects and be expected to attend and participate in laboratory meetings and seminars, national and international conferences, as well as work collaboratively with other lab members and collaborators. The incumbents will receive personalized guidance and training to support their career goals, whether in industry or academia. Beyond scientific skills, there will be a focus on developing professional skills such as writing papers and grants, delivering presentations and talks, and leading and managing a team. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education: A doctoral degree or master's degree with significant experience.
The position will remain open until filled. This is an exempt-level, benefitted position. The University will perform background checks on all new hires prior to employment. A pre-employment health screening is required. This position is located in Charlottesville, VA.
