This position will conduct research related to the Cretaceous/Paleogene (K/Pg) boundary and will help manage a large multidisciplinary project (NSF funded) looking at the recovery of life after the K/Pg mass extinction.
This is a 2-year term position, with the opportunity for the term to be extended up to 5 years based on performance.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, normal business hours, evening and weekends as needed.

- Conducts fieldwork with other PIs/co-PIs.
- Conducts research and assembles research datasets, which leads to peer reviewed publications related to the recovery of life after the Cretaceous/Paleogene boundary.
- Leads research that results in peer reviewed publications.
- Elevates the impact of the Earth Sciences Department within and beyond the museum.
- Collaborates with community scientists, interns, and volunteers to produce scholarship, improve collections, and/or conduct outreach.
- Works alongside Dr. Tyler Lyson to help manage the large multidisciplinary group (i.e., setting up Zoom meetings, organizing fieldwork and team meetings, submitting end of year grant/collection reports, acquiring collecting permits, etc.)
- Develops, fosters and maintains outreach with the public.
- Coordinates with Museum departments to support and deliver internal and external educational programs and exhibit materials as appropriate or required.
- Engage in broader impacts and help mentor Teen Science Scholars and interns, conduct Scientist in Action programs, and participate in television and mass media, website updates, and DMNS social media to share our discoveries with broad audiences.
- Submits and approves timesheets and expenses in a timely manner.
- Supports the preparation of department plans, budgets, and reports, and delivers planned goals on-time.
- Participates in meetings as outlined in the division procedures manual.
- Participates in Museum and Science Division initiatives, as needed.
- Maintains an active role in the professional paleontology community.
- Attends professional meetings (i.e., Society of Vertebrate Paleontology, Geological Society of America, etc.) at least every other year, though every year is preferable.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Ph.D. in Biology, Geology, or related field required.
- Strong peer-reviewed publication record.
- Available to work occasional evenings and weekends.
- Experience leading field-based research.
- Proficient organizing datasets in Microsoft Excel.
- Proficient making publication quality figures using Adobe Suite.
