Position: Research Scientist
Reports to: Head of Scientific Research
Location: San Diego/Carlsbad, CA USA (hybrid)
Salary Range: $80,000 - $90,000 annually
About the Position:
SleepScore Labs is looking for a Research Scientist to become an integral part of our Sleep Science & Research team and have the opportunity to work in a dynamic environment. The Research Scientist will contribute to SleepScore Labs research activities with a focus on data management and statistical analysis and interpretation, as well as contribute to study design, survey composition, executing data acquisition, and report writing.
Your Role:
- Process and manage quantitative data sets.
- Conduct statistical analyses on quantitative data and interpret results.
- Drive data exploration and insights projects.
- Translate complex data into simple textual and visual representations.
- Summarize research findings into presentations and reports.
- Contribute to drafting scientific manuscripts and conference submissions.
- Design online surveys and other research materials.
- Apply team resources to deliver quality deliverables within the expected timeline.
- Collaborate with others to identify research needs.
- Communicate and present results to the project team and external partner clearly and with a high degree of accuracy.
- Effectively collaborate and handle the progress of cross-functional projects with an efficient use of resources and timelines.
- Must be tolerant to change, ready to take on new challenges, and open to learning new skills.
Ideal Candidate will have:
- Advanced degree in relevant field of study (PhD preferred).
- 4+ years experience as a researcher.
- Industry experience in sleep science, health science, psychology, or social sciences highly preferred.
- Strong demonstrated experience with research activities, research methodology and design, and data analysis.
- Strong quantitative methodology skills (e.g., survey design, regression analyses, data visualization).
- Experience with advanced statistical analyses (e.g., multilevel modeling).
- Experience with statistical software (R preferred).
- Ability to initiate and drive independent data projects.
- Experience with interpreting findings.
- Experience with handling and merging large data sets.
- Strong Microsoft skills including MS Word and Excel.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and experience in managing multiple research projects.
- Must be familiar with fundamental and applied research practices.
- Strong organizational & follow-up skills and the ability to handle sensitive information confidentially.
- Experience with survey software such as Survey Monkey and Qualtrics preferred.
- Critical thinking and strong problem-solving skills.
- Scientific curiosity and creativity.
- Attention to detail.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team.
- Experience working with a hybrid team (in person and remote).
- Track record of accomplishments in a research position.
