Job description

The Bloomberg School of Public Health, Department of Population, Family, and Reproductive Health is seeking a Research Data Analyst.

  • For over twenty-five years, our team has conducted high quality, utilization focused evaluation, research, and quality improvement work across the United States focused on various prenatal, early childhood and child welfare interventions.


Our Collaborators

  • For more than ten years, our team has collaborated with leaders in New Jersey's Department of Health and Department of Children and Families on research, evaluation and continuous quality improvement. By collaborating across state departments and creatively leveraging federal and state funding, New Jersey has created a unique, progressive early childhood system of care. NJ's system features a statewide central intake system (Connecting NJ) for at-risk pregnant and parenting people which links eligible families interested in services to a variety of resources in their communities. With sophisticated data systems and a well-developed infrastructure for collaborating with parents and families, New Jersey is a national leader in the early childhood space.


Our Research Data Analyst Position

  • The Research Data Analyst will be responsible for the management, manipulation and statistical analysis of data, quality control of project databases and documentation of research activities. The Research Data Analyst will analyze data from New Jersey's early childhood home visiting programs and the state's central intake system (Connecting NJ). We are looking for an analytically gifted individual who will support our team in carrying out research, evaluation and quality improvement work. The ideal candidate for the position is a self-motivated, responsible, detail-oriented individual with excellent organizational abilities. Applicants must be able to work independently in a self-directed fashion while managing multiple tasks.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Clean, restructure, merge, and analyze survey data and/or large administrative datasets (with 1000+ observations).
  • Write code or update existing code for data management, to ensure data quality, to create new variables and to analyze data in a statistical software package.
  • Use a statistical software package to code for and run statistical tests on cross-sectional, longitudinal, and/or clustered data. Statistical tests may include t-tests, chi square, linear regression, logistic regression, survival analysis, and principal component analysis.
  • Create analysis-ready datasets for members of the research team.
  • Ensure that study data files are organized and up to date.
  • Create and maintain documentation about datasets, for example data dictionaries or flowcharts.
  • Identify and propose solutions to systematic issues with data.
  • Collaborate with research team to resolve data issues.
  • Communicate effectively with the team and proactively bring questions and concerns to the team.
  • Interpret, summarize and present analyses in various formats including raw output, tables, graphs, and oral and written reports. This could include internal presentations as well as presentations to external partners.
  • Contribute to writing, reviewing, and referencing for reports, presentations, publications, and grant proposals.
  • Perform other evaluation and continuous quality improvement-related duties as assigned.


Special Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Candidate must be detail-oriented and have outstanding organizational skills.
  • This position requires strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Proficiency in the SAS statistical analysis software package required.
  • Proficiency in an additional software package (R, Stata or SPSS) is desirable, but not required.
  • Candidates must be skilled in the analysis and interpretation of survey data and other secondary data sets and the dissemination of study findings through written and oral communications.
  • Candidates must be able to work independently as well as communicate and collaborate effectively in a team environment.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in related discipline.
  • Three years related experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in related discipline preferred.
  • Relevant disciplines include public health, public policy, epidemiology, biostatistics, economics or similar discipline.

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
