Research Data Analyst
Role Mission: The mission of a Research Data Analyst is to create accurate, meaningful, and insightful data analysis that helps answer their organizational questions, make informed decisions, and contribute to the advancement of knowledge in the accountability fields. They play a vital role in turning raw data into actionable information that can have a significant impact on outcomes and decision-making.

Location:
Language for national roles: This is a full-time (remote/on-site) position based in (Texas/Louisiana/Florida/Arkansas/Ohio) with preference given to candidates who live in Austin, El Paso, Houston, Permian Basin (Midland/Odessa), Rio Grande Valley, San Antonio, and Tarrant County (Fort Worth), or who are willing to relocate.
Language for regional roles: This is a full-time (remote/on-site) position located in (Region). Preference will be given to candidates who live in the (Region), or who are willing to relocate.
Travel Expectations:
Travel is expected to occur two or less times throughout the year and be contained within Texas.
What You'll Do - Accountabilities
Essential Duties:

• Data Collection: Research Data Analyst will be responsible for collecting data relevant to a project. This can involve designing data collection methods, surveys, experiments, or accessing existing datasets.
• Data Cleaning and Preprocessing: Research Data Analyst will clean and preprocess data to ensure its quality and integrity. This includes removing outliers, handling missing values, and transforming data as needed.
• Data Analysis: Research Data Analyst will use statistical and analytical techniques to analyze the data and extract meaningful insights. This may involve applying various statistical tests, data visualization, and modeling.
• Reporting and Visualization: Research Data Analyst will create reports and visualizations to present research findings. Often using tools like data visualization software (e.g., Tableau, Python libraries like Matplotlib or Seaborn) to create charts, graphs, and tables.
• Hypothesis Testing: Research Data Analyst will test hypotheses and draw conclusions from the data. They may be involved in designing experiments, setting up control groups, and conducting statistical tests.
• Data Interpretation: Research Data Analyst will interpret the results of their analyses and making recommendations based on those findings. They help the organization understand the implications of their work.
• Quality Assurance: Research Data Analyst will ensure data accuracy and quality. They will develop and implement quality assurance processes to validate data and results.
• Collaboration: Research Data Analyst will work closely with educational government agencies, members of other organizational teams, or other stakeholders to understand the research objectives and align their data analysis efforts with the project's goals.
• Data Management: Research Data Analyst will be responsible for managing data repositories and ensuring data security and compliance with relevant regulations.
• Continuous Learning: Research Data Analyst will keep up with the latest data analysis techniques, technologies, and accountability information.

• Data Cleaning and Preprocessing: Skills in data cleaning, handling missing values, and transforming data for analysis.

• Programming and Software Skills:
  • Proficiency in programming languages commonly used for data analysis, such as R and Python.
  • Knowledge of data analysis software like SAS, SPSS, or STATA.
  • Familiarity with database management and SQL for data retrieval.
• Data Management and Storage:

  • Familiarity with research design and methodologies, especially in the educational field of research.
  • Strong understanding of state accountability systems and outcomes to better interpret data.

  • The ability to think critically and problem-solve when encountering complex data-related challenges.
• Communication Skills:
  • Effective communication skills to convey findings and insights through written reports, presentations, and data visualizations.
  • The ability to communicate technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
• Project Management:
  • Organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.

Required experience:

• Required Education: Bachelor's degree in computer science, data science, statistics, or another mathematics field
• Preferred Education: Masters's degree in computer science, data science, statistics, or another mathematics field
• Year of Experience: 1-3 years in research or data science background

Technology Knowledge:

• Data retrieval language such as SQL
• Data analytics software such as SPSS, SAS or STATA
• Data processing language such as C#, Python or R
• Data visualization tools such as Excel, Tableau, R, Power BI, or Python
• Communication software such as Outlook and TEAMS

Physical Requirements:

• Lifting items weighing 15lbs or less.
• Travel may include flying, driving and overnight hotel stays.
• Using a computer for extended periods of time.

Compensation & Benefits:
Salaries for people entering this role typically fall between $74,000 - $87,000, commensurate with relevant experience and qualifications and in alignment with internal equity. This role is also eligible for performance pay based on organizational performance and goal attainment.
