Research Associate (PhD)
Arthroplasty Research Laboratory
Full-Time
Administration: (10%):
- Assist in maintenance of PJI database for related standard operating protocols, list of reagents, study initiatives, IRB and IACUC applications
- Provides weekly update at arthroplasty research laboratory meetings
- Work with undergraduate students, medical students and residents on PJI-related projects
PJI Research (90%):
- Works closely with Dr. Alberto Carli and Dr. Mathias Bostrom in the design and execution of PJI basic science and translational studies.
- Assists with in-vitro studies that include growing bacterial biofilm on the surfaces of orthopedic implants and determining antibiotic elution from polymethylmethacrylate.
- Assists in designing and carrying out animal studies that incorporate use of a validated mouse model of knee PJI. Technician will be responsible for assisting in surgical procedures, preparing bacterial inoculations, providing postoperative analgesia and animal care and performing limb harvesting techniques.
- Will interact with the P JI research clinical coordinator and research assistants to cross-reference laboratory studies with clinical variables and outcomes.
- Will assist in writing animal use protocol, abstracts for conference submissions, and manuscripts for scientific publication.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Education/Training:
- PhD degree in molecular and cellular biology, pharmacology, biochemistry, or a related field.
Experience:
- 5+ years’ experience in basic translational research, laboratory, and mouse handling techniques.
- Proficient use of computers and software.
- Experience with data interpretation and analysis.
- Knowledge of orthopaedic terminology preferred.
Qualifications:
- The candidate must have at least 5 years’ experience in Basic Science/Clinical Research.
- Strong organizational, time-management, presentation, and problem-solving skills as well as excellent written and communication skills.
- Proficiency in use of computers, software, and Microsoft Office suite.
- A minimum 24-month, full-time commitment is required.
