Research Assistant II
Position Summary:
Imoyase Community Support Services (ICSS) is seeking a full-time Research Assistant to provide research support for an assessment of a publicly funded violence prevention and intervention initiative in the City of Los Angeles designed for individuals who are gang-involved or at risk of gang joining. The Research Assistant will work directly under the two Project Leads but will also work with the entire Imoyase research team (i.e., the Executive Director, Project Leads, Senior Researchers, and Research Assistants). This position is ideal for someone who is interested in and/or experienced in social science research, thrives in a fast-paced environment, is flexible, solution-focused, detail-oriented, and is able to work independently and effectively to complete project deliverables with multiple deadlines.
The Research Assistant position is active from January 1, 2024 to August 31, 2024. This position is benefits eligible and could possibly be renewed for another 12 months.
This is a salary-based position with compensation at an annual salary rate of $75,000 ($6,250/month).
This role is a remote work position with periodic in-person meetings, site visits, and stakeholder presentations.
About IMOYASE Community Support Services:
ICSS is a nonprofit (501c3) organization with over 30 years of experience conducting program evaluation and action research that is participatory, culturally relevant, collaborative, and flexible, resulting in meaningful individual, community, organizational, and systems policy change throughout Los Angeles, California, and the nation. ICSS has experience working with diverse populations across the United States, and has conducted many multi-site, multi-year, multi-level program evaluations and provided technical support to small to mid-sized organizations that serve African American, Asian/Pacific Islander, Latinx, LGBTQ+, and Native American communities. ICSS also works with service providers, private foundations, governmental agencies, and other institutions to aid them in evaluating their impact in communities and provide recommendations for expanding their reach and strategic direction.
Specific Duties:
- Assist the ICSS team with implementing a mixed methods research design (this may include conducting site visits (in-person or virtual) with initiative stakeholders in the City of Los Angeles).
- Enter, clean, and manage data, including maintaining electronic (Excel and SPSS) databases, and assisting with data analysis.
- Transcribe and code observations from audio recorded and direct observation data to translate into quantitative metrics or supervise undergraduate students completing these tasks.
- Assist with literature reviews by accessing PsycINFO, ERIC, government and other online databases to identify relevant research.
- Assist with developing data collection tools and metrics and preparing reports (including PowerPoint presentations).
- Participate in internal and external (partner) meetings and activities.
- Train and supervise undergraduate Research Assistants (URA) on specific data related tasks.
- Quality review of URA work for accuracy and completeness. This includes checking facts, proofreading, and editing data documents.
Experience Qualifications:
- Minimum 3 to 5-years’ experience actively working in research and/or program evaluation preferred; 1-2 years experience with strong skillset will be considered.
- Experience and/or interest working on prevention and early intervention (PEI) and treatment, juvenile justice, or positive youth development issues.
- Demonstrated knowledge in the areas of research methods, qualitative data coding, qualitative and/or quantitative data analysis, PsycInfo and ERIC databases.
- Demonstrated competency with SPSS, Microsoft Excel/Word/PowerPoint, and qualitative coding software (e.g., NVivo, Atlas.ti, Dedoose, etc.); preferable knowledgeable of R and Qualtrics.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, and ability to work effectively and efficiently independently and as part of a team.
Required Education: Master’s degree in Psychology, Sociology, Political Science, Anthropology, Ethnic Studies, Public Health, or related field and/or equivalent experience.
Exemption Status: Full-Time (40 hours per week), Temporary: January 1 – August 31, 2024
