The New York Institute of Technology is currently seeking a Research Assistant for the Center for Biomedical Innovation (CBI) within the College of Osteopathic Medicine. Reporting directly to the Director of the Center for Biomedical Innovation, the Research Assistant will be located at our Long Island campus.
The mission of the CBI at is to actively contribute to research and educational programs within the College of Osteopathic Medicine. The focus of the CBI revolves around unconventional and exploratory projects that leverage technology to advance the field of biomedical engineering and creative technology-based solutions to address questions in STEM education and long-standing anatomical questions. Collaboration is at the heart of the CBI's mission, fostering ongoing partnerships not only within different departments of NYITCOM but also extending to collaborations with other colleges within NYIT.
Under the leadership of the director and core faculty, the CBI is committed to forging new and innovative collaborations with external institutions and industry firms, particularly those involved in emerging technologies. Through these efforts, the CBI plays a vital role in pushing the boundaries of knowledge and technology in the realm of medical research and education at NYITCOM.
Responsibilities
  • Overseeing scheduling, access, and maintenance of equipment inventory for faculty and student engineering projects.
  • Office activities include completing forms and preparing purchase orders, managing budgeting, maintaining service contracts and technical support for CBI equipment and software, preparing media, and posting news for the CBI web page and social media, training students, staff, and faculty on the use of 3D printers and related software, and organizing CBI workshops and meetings.
  • Ensuring that all Institutional Review Board and Institutional Animal Use and Care Committee paperwork and training are in compliance and up to date.
  • Assisting with 3D printing for CBI projects and other NYIT Faculty.
  • Assisting in maintaining service contracts and technical support for CBI equipment and software.
  • Assisting with preparing media and posting news for the CBI web page and social media.
  • Training students, staff, and faculty on the use of 3D printers and related software.
  • Assisting with organizing CBI workshops and meetings.
  • Assisting with mechanical and electrical engineering projects of the CBI.
  • Assisting with coding for purposes of: 1) programming robotics; 2) biomechanical modeling; and 3) data processing and analysis.
  • Preparing and maintaining all Institutional Review Board and Institutional Animal Use and Care Committee paperwork and training to ensure compliance.
  • May be asked to assist in occasional care and data collection of live animals.
  • May serve as an office manager under the direction of the Director of the Center for Biomedical Innovation.

Qualifications
  • A Bachelor's Degree is required, with a preference for candidates holding a Master's Degree.
  • Strong organizational and computer skills are essential, as well as experience in 3D printing and 3D modeling/CAD.
  • Specific coding skills would require programming robotic systems (e.g., Raspberry Pi, Arduino), biomechanical modeling (e.g., OpenSim), and data processing and analysis are required.
  • Preferred programs include MATLAB, R, and Python.
  • Most importantly, must be self-motivated and able to work independently to solve problems.
  • In-person work during regular business hours is required; remote work will only be permitted temporarily and under extreme circumstances with appropriate prior approval and a clear plan of action for a return to in-person work.

New York Tech considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate experience/expertise, education/training, key skills, geographic location, internal peer equity as well as market, organizational considerations and/or applicable collective bargaining agreement when extending an offer.

USD $42,000.00/Yr.
Maximum Salary
USD $48,000.00/Yr.
