SEIU-UHW members have an ambitious plan that includes committing our union to improving healthcare quality and outcomes, lowering cost and expanding access and providing a platform for healthcare workers to advocate for a more just healthcare system. We are looking for experienced researchers and policy specialists to support this mission.
Position Summary:
Our Research Department is responsible for providing strategic support for campaigns to build power and improve standards for workers. These include organizing campaigns to unite more healthcare workers in our union, public campaigns to raise quality, lower costs and raise workplace standards for workers, and strategic contract negotiations.
Essential Skills Needed for Position
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills;
- Commitment to building power for workers;
- 2+ years of labor, community, political or policy campaign experience;
- Proficiency in Excel;
- Bachelor’s or advanced degree in a relevant field;
- Some experience analyzing public and private company financial statements;
- Knowledge of or experience in the health care industry is preferred;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- Ability to work independently;
- Other duties as assigned.
Accountability and Authority
This position reports to a Research Coordinator or Assistant Research Director and the Research Director.
PrimaryResponsibilities Include:
- Providing strategic support and analysis for campaigns to unite workers in our union and to improve workers’ standard of living;
- Developing and implementing new organizing and contract campaign tactics and strategies;
- Performing in-depth financial analyses of health systems and long term care companies;
- Analyzing policy issues that could impact workers and key industries and helping craft policy solutions.
