Role:
Remote Sensing Consultant

Role Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled Remote Sensing Consultant with expertise in assessing utility companies' Remote Sensing programs and providing recommendations for program enhancements and growth. The ideal candidate will possess a deep technical understanding of Remote Sensing principles, products, and applications, coupled with a comprehensive knowledge of utility company operations.

Work Environment:
  • Location is flexible: NV5 Portland, OR office or work from home considered
  • Travel < 25% of the time

Responsibilities:
Technical Expertise:
  • Demonstrate proficiency in Remote Sensing techniques, including data acquisition and processing.
  • Provide guidance on the selection and implementation of appropriate Remote Sensing tools and technologies for utility-specific applications.
Assessment of Utility Companies’ Remote Sensing Programs:
  • Conduct comprehensive evaluations of utility companies' existing Remote Sensing programs.
  • Analyze data collection methodologies, technologies employed, and data processing techniques.
  • Identify strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities within current programs.
  • Develop actionable recommendations for program improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Conduct Return on Investment analyses for Remote Sensing.
Understanding of Enterprise Utility Companies:
  • Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of utility company operations, infrastructure, regulations, and challenges.
  • Collaborate with utility company stakeholders to align Remote Sensing solutions with organizational goals and objectives.
Remote Sensing Sales Support:
  • Architect innovative Remote Sensing solutions tailored to the specific needs of prospective utility clients.
  • Set clear technical expectations with potential clients regarding the capabilities and limitations of Remote Sensing technologies.
  • Develop detailed Level of Effort (LOE) estimates for proposed Remote Sensing projects.
  • Conduct product demonstrations and presentations to showcase the value proposition of Remote Sensing solutions.
  • Provide ongoing technical support to clients throughout the pre-sales process.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Remote Sensing, Geospatial Science, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in Remote Sensing, within the utility sector.
  • Strong technical proficiency in Remote Sensing processes, products, and applications.
  • In-depth knowledge of utility company operations and industry-specific challenges.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data sets and generate actionable insights.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Experience/Skills Preferred (in addition to requirements):
  • Experience building Remote Sensing business cases and seeking funding at electric utilities.
  • Familiarity with the following:
    • CapX versus OpX program spending at utilities
    • Utility vegetation management programs, regulations, and challenges
    • Utility engineering greenfield, make-ready, and as-built surveys and siting
    • Right-of-way maintenance and asset inspections
    • Utility GIS, OMS, and ADMS systems
    • NESC and GO 95 Regulations
    • Rate Cases, Utility Grants, and Utility Regulatory Agencies and Regulations (FAC/CIP/Etc.
