A Day in the Life as a Release of Information Specialist: You will work with outside entities to fulfill all third party requests for Patient Records in accordance with Federal, State and organizational regulations. You will retrieve, collect and prioritize all requests received from external parties and prioritize based on importance and time sensitivity, Verify legitimacy, accuracy and authority of all such requests, Abide by, adhere to, and conform to all applicable organizational, local, state, federal regulations to maintain the confidentiality and integrity of all records, Determine records to be released by reviewing requestor information and HIPAA Authorization, Scan and Log all incoming requests and HIPAA authorizations on receipt, Answer phones based on such releases, Handle all incoming mail, Prepare an Invoice based on request and send to requesting party in a timely manner, Take/process credit card payments made by phone, release records via mail or fax within 3 days of receipt of payment, Document any medical record updates/releases made to patient charts and documents in Electronic Medical Record Report breaches, instances of noncompliance, patient complaints, problems or similar. Perform other clerical duties, as assigned or needed for the efficient operation of SDMI. You can expect to be scheduled Monday-Friday and work an 8 hour shift (morning shift).
You are an ideal candidate if you…
- Have previous experience as a medical records clerk or Release of Information Specialist
- Have experience working with a medical records system/software
To ensure success in this role, you must…
- Be able to read and write in English
- Have the ability to type at least 35 wpm
- Be able to work quickly and efficiently
- Possess polite, professional communication – both written and verbal
You can expect to earn an hourly rate of $17
