Under the general direction of the Director of Student Relations the Training Specialist possesses a level of knowledge that allows them to develop programs and curriculum to ensure Federal, state, and institutional compliance for financial aid, VA programs, and policies. This position is responsible for developing programs and curriculum to ensure federal Title IV, state, and institutional compliance for in-job training for current and new staff. The Training Specialist will analyze the effectiveness of training and workshops for the staff and develop appropriate modifications if needed. Develop systems to monitor and ensure staff are performing their responsibilities according to the training.


WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:

Job responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop and implement training programs to ensure One Stop, Financial Aid, Registrar, Compliance, Bursar, and Admissions team members gain and maintain in-depth knowledge of federal, state, and institutional regulations. This includes but is not limited to Title IV funds, Veterans Affairs benefits, international enrollment, federal work-study programs, scholarship programs, and consumer information.
  • Develop and implement training programs to ensure One Stop, Financial Aid, Registrar, Compliance, Bursar, and Admissions and as applicable, other Parker team members are effectively and efficiently using their systems such as PowerFAIDS, Jenzabar, Coursedog, EMS, and Clearinghouse.
  • Train One Stop Guides in new operational responsibilities from Financial Aid, Bursar, and Registrar, and new initiatives for scholarships, and new applicant interviews.
  • Provide ongoing training to ensure One Stop Guides maintain customer service excellence.
  • Support One Stop Guides and departmental needs during peak times.
  • Monitor employee performance in response to training. Maintain up-to-date and accurate records of trainee progress and achievements, including the creation and maintenance of a training calendar.
  • Complete the NASFAA professional credentials for the application process, campus-based programs, cost of attendance, direct loans, federal Pell grants and Iraq and Afghanistan service grants, need analysis, packaging & notification of awards, professional judgment, return of Title IV funds, satisfactory academic progress, student eligibility, and verification.
  • Complete annual School Certification training for Veteran Affairs benefits.
  • Attend conferences and training sessions to ensure a proficient understanding of any new regulations, policies, or procedures.
  • Stay up to date on any federal Title IV, state, or institutional changes and update materials accordingly.
  • Serve secondary support for functional directors and assistant directors.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

EDUCATION/EXPERTISE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred; relevant work experience will be considered.
  • Three or more years of experience working in student financial aid.
  • Working knowledge of the following: Applicable laws, regulations, and standards of Higher Education and Human Resources. Guidelines for FERPA, information privacy and security. Guidelines for AACRAO, US Department of Education, and Veteran Affairs.
  • Must be in and maintain good standing with the Department of Education for continued employment.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Serve as the primary onsite manager for the One Stop Guides for escalation and staffing support.
  • Develop and administer as primary a re-enrollment program to retain and readmit students not returning from a leave of absence and term-to-term.
  • Initiate and manage new programs related to new applicant interviews, loan repayment, financial aid and financial literacy promotion, internal and external scholarship, and automated communications.
  • Determine and implement new programs for Veterans and possibly international students.
  • Secondary support for functional directors and assistant directors

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Visual acuity to use a keyboard and view a computer terminal. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp.
  • May require ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; or the ability to stand and walk.
  • Ability to occasionally lift, carry and/or move light to medium weight up to twelve (12) pounds and/or exert up to twelve (12) pounds of force.

STATUS: Exempt

HOURS: 8:00-5:00 - Flexibility is required during peak registration and term start. This is a hybrid position, on campus as required.
