About the role
The OD Training Specialist is responsible for conducting professional training events on AEG's common applications focusing on the point of sale and electronic Health Records for OD's and Scribes. This position requires strong interpersonal skills along with high level facilitation skills for varying group sizes. They will support the Point-of-Sale Training and other EHR training specialists, within the IT Department and report into the Sr. Director of the Point of Sale and Electronic Health records.
Requirements
Education:
  • Required Doctor of Optometry (O.D) degree.

Experience:
  • Three (3) plus years of related work experience in optometric industry - both clinical and retail preferred
  • Three (3) plus years of management/leadership experience.
  • Experience in training or developing others
  • Experience conducting training for Electronic Health Records

Duties Responsibilities:
  • Facilitate professional training events for employees; demonstrate expertise in our software products as well as an understanding of patient workflows and unique configurations.
  • Create and update training documentation which includes training manuals, diagrams, PowerPoints, and other supporting materials
  • Assist with administration of training events and management of course offerings in our Learning Management Systems
  • Conduct both in-person and web-based training events
    Collaborate with cross functional teams to improve training offerings for various audiences and products
  • Provide product demonstrations to support the needs of the training process
    Prepare and conduct sessions for large groups
  • Become an expert in your assigned software application(s); stay up to date on new features and version changes
  • Develop an understanding of standard operating procedures
  • Develop an understanding of the applications processes and best practices
  • Demonstrate responsiveness and a sense of urgency in all practice interactions
  • Research issues by collaborating with internal cross functional teams and our internal help desk when a solution is not readily available
  • Document and report bugs discovered in the system for resolution
  • Interact with employees, via phone or e-mail, to provide responses to inquiries and troubleshoot issues by evaluating and analyzing the symptoms
  • Serve as a liaison between the practice and the IT teams to resolve issues
  • Advocate for practices by documenting and communicating suggestions for software enhancements
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned
  • Evenings and weekends as required
  • Extensive Travel required

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
  • Specialty industry experience (Documentation and treatment of pathology, Vision Therapy, Dry eye treatment, Myopia Management, Scleral contact lenses/other specialty contact lenses, Low Vision)
  • Effective communication skills, including listening, writing, and speaking
  • Facilitation skills for groups of 10-60 people
  • Ability to lead training sessions with confidence
  • Proficiency in Eyefinity EHR or similar Optometric Electronic Health Records
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Proficiency with web conferencing software (e.g., Zoom, GoToMeeting, Adobe Connect)
  • Strong understanding of opthalmological/optometric medical coding
  • Strong time management skills and ability to effectively manage multiple priorities
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and integrate into a team environment
  • Knowledge of adult education principles is preferred
