Job Summary
The Registered Nurse (RN) is a licensed professional who facilitates and coordinates patient care delivery of the multidisciplinary healthcare team in accordance with physician orders.
Utilizing the nursing process, the RN assesses the patient, identifies nursing diagnosis based on patient condition, develops/implements a focused plan of care, and evaluates the patient response.
The RN communicates patient data to the health care team, makes recommendations for patient interventions, delegates nursing care to others as appropriate, collaborates with other health care providers to deliver exceptional patient care, and documents outcomes in the patient’s medical record.
Registered Nurse is responsible for creating a plan of care that is sensitive to diversity, age appropriate, and individualized to the patient’s needs to facilitate wellness and healing.
Delegates interventions to health care personnel guided by the Texas Nursing Practice Act and regulatory requirements, considering each patient’s condition and the competencies of the employee to minimize patient risk while maximizing safety.
Utilizes clinical judgment, clinical inquiry, advocacy, caring practices, collaboration, and system thinking in the delivery of nursing care.
Educates patients, families, staff, and the community as a cornerstone of professional practice.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Directs and coordinates nursing care, establishes priorities and delegates nursing activities according to patient needs and staff's capabilities and qualifications. Clearly communicates in a timely manner data obtained during nursing assessments, reports and interdisciplinary rounds and serves as an advocate for patients and families when communicating with other health team members. Assists team members in providing care to patients or administering direct care when professional nursing skills and judgment are required.
Recognizes, appreciates, and incorporates unique differences of patient/family into an individualized plan of care. Differences may include, but are not limited to, cultural differences, spiritual beliefs, gender, race, ethnicity, lifestyle, socioeconomic status, age, and values. Delivers care in a nonjudgmental and nondiscriminatory manner. Assesses patient and family level of understanding to provide effective communication.
Creates a compassionate, supportive, safe, and therapeutic environment for patients/families and staff. Demonstrates empathy, sensitivity, and patience. Develops therapeutic relationships with patients and family and maintains appropriate boundaries. Manages both emotional and physical pain with the aim of promoting comfort and healing and preventing unnecessary suffering.
Uses strategies and available resources for problem-solving for patient/family and staff. Recognizes that resources are limited and considers factors related to safety, effectiveness and efficiency in planning and delivering patient care.
Prepares, administers, and documents medications and treatments safely, accurately, and in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Facilitates the learning for patients/families, nursing staff, other members of the health care team and community. Integrates patient and family education throughout the delivery of care. Helps patients and families learn what they need to successfully transition within the health care environment, including changes in level of care and discharge to home or other facility. Assesses and documents learning needs/learning outcomes. Collaborates with peers in establishing individualized teaching plans. Provides patients and family with appropriate information to help them participate and/or make informed decisions about their health care and treatments, including health promotion and disease prevention.
Preserves and protects the confidentiality, autonomy, dignity and rights of patient and family. Completes assessments and formulates an individualized plan to accurately reflect patient and family values and goals so they can be fully represented in care. Works on behalf of patients and families and represents their concerns. Identifies and helps resolve ethical and clinical concerns.
Assures quality of care by adhering to therapeutic standards; measuring health outcomes against patient care goals and standards; making or recommending necessary adjustments; following hospital and nursing division's philosophies and standards of care set by state board of nursing, state nurse practice act, and other governing agency regulations.
Takes personal responsibility to understand, complete and maintain the professional and technical licensures/certifications required of the position and furnishes Carrollton Regional Medical Center with the necessary documentation to substantiate compliance. Completes unit-specific, age-specific and population specific competencies annually. Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, participating in professional societies.
Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and isolation protocols, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations. Wears PPE as required by hospital and state police.
Reports patient safety concerns up the chain of command transparently to maximize organizational improvements and patient safety. Assumes an active role in keeping informed about changes in hospital policy, procedures, and equipment. Participates in safety drills and is knowledgeable of procedures in case of an emergency
Participates in ongoing quality improvement activities to enhance the delivery of patient care and ensures the safety of patients. Systematically evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice, including, but not limited to, nursing sensitive indicators. Supports the implementation of changes. Provides evidence-based practices. Implements practice changes through research utilization and experiential learning. Participates in quality/performance improvement initiatives.
Functions as a team member and works collaboratively and interdependently, involving intra- and inter-disciplinary work with colleagues and the community. Open and sensitive to all team members' unique contributions. Uses resources to develop and implement an integrated plan of care. Delegates tasks/care to appropriate staff and ensures timely follow-up. Demonstrates critical communication skills including self-awareness, inquiry/dialogue, conflict management, negotiation, advocacy and listening. Embraces true collaboration as an ongoing process and invests in its development to ensure a sustained culture of collaboration.

Minimum Qualifications
Active license to practice nursing in Texas
Minimum 2 years acute adult care experience
Basis Life Support (BLS)
