Registered Nurse (Lab)

Heartland Health Center (HHC) is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), which provides affordable and comprehensive primary healthcare and dental care to medically uninsured, under-insured, and low- income individuals and families in Grand Island, Hastings, and surrounding communities.

The Lab/Immunization RN delivers general nursing care and leadership, working collaboratively with Providers and multidisciplinary team members. The RN will manage the clinic lab, administering immunizations and medications to patients of all ages, gender, cultures, and background.

Responsibilities include:

· Deliver direct patient care services to patients across the lifespan.

· Provide consultation and direction to physicians, nurses, and other health care providers regarding immunization schedules, accelerated immunization schedules, vaccine safety and adverse events, vaccine storage and handling, vaccine preventable-diseases surveillance, and immunizations requirements.

· Assess, plan, direct and evaluate total nursing care as determined by the patient's age related physical, psychosocial, and cultural needs in accordance with established standards, policies and procedures of the Heartland Health Center.

· Manage lab, immunization, and medical inventory to meet operational needs.

· Administers vaccines/medications and ensures proper communication of benefits and risks, vaccine safety, and potential adverse events to patients.

· Obtain specimens from patients while adhering to all pertinent protocols.

· Ensure proper specimen handling and storage, reporting and resolution of questions and concerns.

· Ensure maintenance of proper quality control and temperature logs.

· Assures a system of nurse triaging processes to assess and determine patient health care needs and acuity.

· Able to handle large volumes of work within narrow timeframes and remain organized with a precise attention to detail.

Education and Experience:

· Unrestricted License as a Registered Nurse in the State of Nebraska is required.

· Current Basic Life Support certificate or ability to obtain upon hire.

· Possession of a Degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university

· Clinical experience in the following nursing specialty areas preferred:

o Pediatrics, Family Practice, Point-of-Care Lab, Immunizations, Phlebotomy

· Minimum of 2 years’ experience at a leadership or supervisory level.

· Demonstrated professional commitment to providing services to medically underserved persons

· Knowledge of nursing care in accordance with regulations and practices established by the Nebraska Board of Nursing.

· Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing

· Computer literate in electronic mail, word processing, office management system software, and the Electronic Health Record System

Stress level may be high due to frequently dealing with physicians, family members, and other healthcare providers.
