JOB LOCATIONS:
  • Position 1: Requires travel to various special education programs including autistic support in the CSIU five-county region within Columbia, Montour, Northumberland, Snyder and Union Counties; or

  • Position 2: Works with various special education programs at Work Foundations +, Sunbury, PA.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP: The Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) is evaluated on work performance by/responsible to the assigned program supervisor and in their absence to the Director of Special Education and Alternative Programs and in their absence to the Assistant Executive Director/Chief Academic Officer (CAO). The RBT will receive professional development guidance and direction from a person credentialed as a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA).
JOB DEFINITION: The Registered Behavior Technician's (RBT) primary responsibility is to provide behavioral intervention services to students within CSIU special education programs in districts and center-based programs. Behavioral technicians are responsible for implementing Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) based programs as directed by the BCBA. They must assume responsibility for implementing behavior plans and behavioral interventions, working with individual students both in a one to one or small group setting. The technician must be willing to assist, possibly physically, in the event of an unsafe student. The technician must work in a variety of instructional settings supplementing the regular and/or specially developed instructional program. The technician should be aware of the current best practices and/or be willing to accept training appropriate to the instructional program related to autism, behavior disorders, or other necessary training.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide daily modeling and teacher education, ensuring behavior intervention strategies are implemented with high treatment fidelity.
  • Works with educational team to de-escalate behaviors when applicable.
  • Collect, record, and summarize data on observable student's behavior as directed by the BCBA.
  • Follow prescribed behavior skill acquisition and behavior reduction protocol.
  • Advises and consults with the family and other agency personnel with BCBA oversight.
  • Understands and adheres to established policies and procedures.
  • Participates with all other interdisciplinary team members effectively and efficiently.
  • Attends team meetings as required.
  • Demonstrates effective time management skills through daily documentation through progress monitoring.
  • Demonstrates sound judgement, critical thinking and decision making.
  • Provide direct support to staff by introducing and modeling research/evidence-based interventions.
  • Provide direct support to students by teaching and modeling research/evidence-based interventions and curriculum.
  • Coordinated with special education teachers and school staff to develop and monitor effective intervention plans.
  • Coordinate with special education teachers and school staff to develop crisis/safety plans.
  • Provide interventions to enable students to remain in school and/or help stabilize behavior.
  • Assist special education teacher and BCBA in data collection, (i.e. time on task, interval record for reinforcement, etc.).
  • Assist special education teachers in supporting students with disabilities in the general education curriculum by implementing daily schedule and behavior plans.
  • Provide services, supports and interventions directly with students under guidance and daily observation of special education teachers and the BCBA, to ensure students meet academic and behavioral goal, (i.e. providing one-on-one support to students in the classroom, explaining instructions to students, modeling appropriate behavior, communication regularly with classroom teachers, students, modeling appropriate behavior, communicating regularly with classroom teachers).
  • Assist in providing materials to help classroom teachers create curriculum modifications for students.
  • Adhere to the RBT Ethics Code (2.0) and self-reporting requirements. This includes the four core principles that are the foundation of the RBT Ethics code:
    1. Benefit others;
    2. Treat others with compassion, dignity and respect;
    3. Behave with integrity;
    4. Ensure self-competence.

NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the program supervisor of Special Education or their designee.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
  • The minimum education is a High School Diploma.
  • Successful completion of the Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification, which is a paraprofessional certification in behavior analysis. Course of Instruction and certification is offered by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB). Will consider applicants willing to complete the RBT certification requirements prior to employment start date in the position.
  • Computer experience using word processing, email, internet required.
  • Adept at using virtual meeting platforms such as Skype, Zoom and Microsoft Teams.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills to prioritize the task based on project deadlines. And must be able to type accurately and maintain a high level of productivity.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills with the ability to communicate and work effectively with colleagues, co-workers, community agency personnel, and students/trainees.
  • Requires the ability to develop and maintain positive and collaborative relationships using tact and diplomacy and to remain calm in unpredictable situations.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding education programs, students and parents at all times adhering to the Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) requirements to protect staff and student data.

ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Current, approved Act 34 (PA State Police), Act 151 (PA Child Abuse Registry) and Act 114-FBI Fingerprint clearances are required and must be renewed at appropriate, specific intervals pursuant to Act 153 of 2014 (revised Act 15 of 2015).
  • Current, approved Act 126 Mandated Reporter Training certificate showing completion of a minimum of three (3) hours training every five (5) years.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT REQUIREMENTS:
  • Maintain RBT certification by participating in all requirements including supervision on a monthly basis.
  • Maintain annual RBT recertification through the renewal competency assessment and maintenance requirements to remain proficient in performing critical Behavior Technician skills for behavior analysis services.
  • Attendance at staff meetings and as directed by immediate supervisor.
  • Attendance at workshop/conferences as approved by supervisor.
  • In accordance with PA Chapter 14.133, staff will participate in training regarding behavior prevention, de-escalation, and/or safe physical management techniques.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Training in and the ability to implement fully all components of safe crisis management.
  • Sedentary: Able to sit for extended periods of time, occasional walking, standing (as necessary) and able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
  • Dexterity: Finger movements (computer keyboard, calculator), eye-hand coordination (office equipment, etc.).
  • Audio-Visual Requirements: Within normal range with or without correction.
  • Is able to move throughout all buildings, floors and grounds.
  • Worksite Environment: Primarily indoors-office setting with occasional exposure to outdoor elements/climate during the day.
  • Mental demands: Steady response to unpredictable situations, ability to remain calm and productive during stressful situations. Demonstrates independent judgment, discretion and is able to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Ability to travel to various work locations and meetings is required.

TIME REQUIREMENTS:
  1. This is a full time non-exempt position working 185 days per school year schedule and follows the schedule for which the position is assigned.
  2. Attendance at work is a requirement of this position; any and all absences must be approved by the immediate supervisor.

It may not be used for personal profit or gain and will be relinquished to the CSIU upon termination of employment from the CSIU.
