This position is a key member of the school behavioral team and assists with the data collection, analysis, and drafting of the Functional Behavioral Assessment (FBA) as a mandatory compliance component of special education. The RBT assists the Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) with the assessment and treatment of challenging behaviors. The RBT also is a consultant for behavior support plans, objectives, and environmental supports and implementation of therapeutic interventions.  The RBT is an integrity check for the BCBA’s treatment plans for special education students. This position reports to the Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) in a special education setting.

*Responsibilities:

  • Under the direction of the BCBA, assists with data collection, data analysis, and drafting of Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBAs).
  • Consults and supports all educational staff on the implementation of FBAs.
  • Trains on existing protocols for behavior management and environmental arrangement.
  • Inputs and analyzes behavior data.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of function-based consequences for student behavior.
  • Serves as a school-wide mobile support to assist in the de-escalation of students in crisis; follows risk assessment protocols and makes recommendations for students’ behavioral support needs according to their PBSP.
  • Takes a lead role in modeling, implementing, and training of the school’s PBIS program, especially regarding alignment of individual PBSPs
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENT:

  • Provides support to the school community to maintain an orderly school environment; provides mobile support to students in crisis or those students demonstrating non-compliant behavior.
  • Uses a variety of behavioral assessments as appropriate including, not limited to, observations, behavior rating scales, behavioral data, and feedback from educational staff
  • Inputs behavior data with accuracy for data analysis
  • Analyzes data and drafts the FBA for BCBA approval.
  • Trains and consults with staff on behavioral strategies and function-based consequences for student behavior, as prescribed in the individual student’s Positive Behavioral Support Plan (PBSP).
  • Implements therapeutic interventions as prescribed in the student’s PBSP.
  • Serves on committees of the school’s PBIS program and climate initiatives.
  • Performs related duties, special assignments and projects as assigned.
  • Proof of active certification, including all required consult trainings, required in employee personnel file on an annual basis.
  • Adheres to all policies and procedures.

Physical demands/work environment

  • Routine school environment. Employee may be involved in de-escalating student behaviors using mandatory approved techniques.
  • Potential exposure to blood borne pathogens; may transport students in agency in accordance with PA Department of Education and Department of Transportation requirements and school and PHMC procedures.
  • Ability to climb stairs and walk on uneven terrain, play yards and school grounds.
  • Ability to move rapidly, forward, backward and laterally.
  • Physical capacity to lift, move and position a student up to age 21 who may weigh 150 pounds or more with the assistance of other properly training personnel.
  • Ability to independently utilize routine office equipment.
  • Ability to independently travel outside of school hours as determined by administration.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in special education, psychology, or related fields.
  • Must hold earned RBT certification OR pass the 40-hour training and RBT exam within 60 calendar days of position offer.
  • A minimum of three (3) years’ experience working with children and youth with emotional disabilities, autism and/or children with Intellectual Disabilities.
  • Must complete all trainings to maintain active RBT certification.

Salary: 

  • Starting salary varies and is based on education, work experience and skills.
