As the Ames' Regional Environment Manager, the primary duty is to implement the Corporate Environmental Management System (EMS) as it applies to the region-specific projects and culture. This position acts as the primary liaison with the environmental regulatory agencies; departments, divisions, etc. and oversees the environmental technician level staff as their direct report.
Frequent construction site visits are required. Sites consist of highway, bridge, railroads, sand and gravel, precious metal and coal mines, material processing facilities, industrial facilities, and renewable energy projects. This position will be based at our regional office location in Aurora, CO and operate throughout the Rocky Mountain Region (Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, and New Mexico). The Regional Environmental Manager will report directly to the Regional Senior Vice President with communication and support from the Corporate Environmental Manager. Travel will be required depending on project necessities. Applicant must be organized, self-motivated and able to work in a team environment with strong interpersonal skills to interface with project construction management, owner representatives, regulatory agencies, engineering/environmental consulting firms, sub-contractors, attorneys, and other team members.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Environmental Permit acquisition associated with State and Federal iterations of the Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act, Oil Pollution Act, Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, Endangered Species Act, Federal Noxious Weed Act, and the all-encompassing National Environmental Policy Act.
- EMS implementation
RESPONSIBILITIES & SCOPE
- Perform audits on existing projects and operations to ensure environmental compliance
- Development of Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans for both construction and industrial site discharges.
- Development of Spill Prevention Control, and Countermeasure Plans.
- This position acts as the Responsible Official for permitting and reporting signatory authority.
- Serve as the liaison with the estimating department and work on bids as necessary.
- Manage potential Regional Environmental non-compliance issues that arise from incident though mitigated completion by acting as the liaison between the source and the applicable regulatory oversight. This position coordinates the final reporting and tracking as required and applicable.
- Manage Technical Service Agreements with Environmental Service Providers
- Outreach and training in minor capacity
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's Degree in science related field (such as civil engineering, environmental science, climate, sustainability, natural resource management, etc.)
- Extensive experience and proven track record in the environmental management, compliance, and permitting field with a minimum of 5 years' experience
- Valid driver's license.
- Must be able to obtain related certifications such as, CPESC, CESSWI, and State Departments' Environmental mgt. certifications
- Experience working independently, following verbal or written instructions.
- Demonstrated ability to be a team member and commitment to the goals of the future Ames' Environmental Management System.
- A detail-oriented approach with excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
- Candidate must be capable of designing and implementing programs for conformance with design commitments, permit conditions, site personnel training, documentation, conducting field monitoring and preparing reports. Previous experience in and/or a good understanding and technical background related to heavy and highway construction, mass earthworks, and underground piping and mining associated with civil projects is required.
