Summary:
Provides support for affiliated site pharmacies through assessment, evaluation, and relationship building. Areas of expertise include: pharmacy workflow, regulatory compliance, resource utilization, medication safety, medication distribution, use of technology in pharmacy, policy development, practice standardization, inventory management, quality improvement, formulary standardization and maintenance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides guidance to facilities regarding TJC, CMS, FDA, USP, and State Board of Pharmacy requirements. Assists sites in assessment, design, and remediation of workflows, processes, and controls associated with best practice and/or regulatory or other agency requirements. Investigates instances of diversion in partnership with facility-based leadership.
  • Promotes medication safety through standardization, maintenance, and quality of the medication use system. Perpetuates best practices related to the medication use system throughout the hospital system.
  • Serves as primary point of contact for facility-based teammates, both inside and outside of Pharmacy. Communicates actions, recommendations, and evaluations to facility leadership. Orients new directors and pharmacists in charge to their roles and responsibilities.
  • Participates in evaluation of Pharmacy staffing including plans, ratios, workload, and roles. Provides recommendations for achieving desired staffing levels. Assists in implementation of remote order entry programs where appropriate.
  • Identifies opportunities to optimize medication use including antimicrobial and opioid stewardship, clinical initiatives, IV to PO conversion, and other cost-savings opportunities. Evaluates inventory management strategies and identifies opportunities for optimization. Assists in operationalizing recommended opportunities and strategies.
  • Evaluates controlled substances prescribing, inventory, monitoring, and surveillance mechanisms for compliance to organizational policy and governing body regulations. Provides recommendations and oversees remediation of deficiencies in compliance.
  • Assists in the development, review, and maintenance of organizational policies, initiatives, standards, and other documents as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:
Required Education: Bachelors or doctorate in pharmacy (PharmD)
Preferred Education: Doctorate in pharmacy (PharmD) plus masters degree in business, healthcare administration, or related field
Required Experience: Minimum 5 years of experience at a medium sized hospital or pharmacy leader at the health-system level with 3 of those years at a Director of Pharmacy level or above.
Preferred License/Registration/Certification: Board certified in pharmacotherapy, sterile compounding, or other aspect of Pharmacy
Computer Skills Required: Moderate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
