Form of work Position Function Summary
Under the direction of the Programs, Chief Officer (CPO), the Referral Specialist supports the medical staff, medical support staff, and patients at La Familia Medical Center (LFMC) by managing referrals.
Essential Responsibilities- Assists providers and patients in scheduling appointments;
- Navigates the insurance network to meet patient needs in the most appropriate fashion;
- Researches options for patients with limited resources;
- Obtains prior authorizations as needed for items such as procedures, medications, medical supplies and referrals;
- Communicating with patients about their referrals, appointments, and a responding to patients questions on these issues;
- Tracks referrals and monitoring if they have been completed, then closing out information once the referral process is complete;
- Acts as a resource for providers, medical support staff, patients, and other LFMC co-workers in all aspects of referrals.
- Education, Experience and Skills/TrainingHigh school graduate or GED certificate required. Graduation from a technical school with appropriate degree and/or certification such as Nurse Assistant/Aide program preferred. Six months related experience in preferred; or any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education approved by Human Resources.
