PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The Recreation Coordinator advances the mission of PenMet Parks by delivering Community Recreation programs for people of all ages and with varying skills and abilities. The specific program areas include, but are not limited to, summer camps, youth, teen, and adult programs. This position builds relationships, engagement, loyalty, expands programming, and increases participation in programs for individuals with specialized, adaptive, and inclusive needs. Works with the recreation team on District special events and other programs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS /RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:

1. Provides on-site leadership and instruction to program participants in programs and activities in assigned areas.

2. Develops, plans, promotes, and implements all components of the assigned program, which includes coordinating, administering, and evaluating recreational programs.

3. Develops program plans that include purpose, budget, audience, logistics, schedules, and evaluation metrics.

4. Creates and presents program reports to provide updates on assigned programs.

5. Outlines performance measures, evaluates successes, and areas for improvement.

6. Maintains records related to program implementation, operations, attendance, and performance measures.

7. Ensures activities comply with Federal, State, and Local laws, regulations, rules and/or standards, as well as District and departmental policies, procedures, and regulations.

8. Proactively identifies opportunities to improve systems, processes, and services.

9. Evaluates and recommends new and existing youth and adult Community Recreation programs, classes, and camps, considering factors such as District goals and objectives, community need, and industry trends.

10. Recruits, supervises, and evaluates the performance of assigned staff, volunteers, contractors, and vendors. Facilitates and coordinates training for staff and volunteers.

11. Manages contracted service providers including procurement, contract development, evaluation, and invoice processing.

12. Develops and manages annual and program-specific budgets for assigned programs. Assists in developing program financial and other performance goals. Reports on performance data and program insight to inform budgeting and decision-making.

13. Research, purchases, and inventories supplies, and equipment required to deliver programs.

14. Develops effective working relationships with community groups, businesses, local/county/state agencies, and school district personnel to maximize programs and outreach provided to customers.

15. Oversees the Teen Advisory Committee.

16. Coordinates the creation and distribution of program marketing and promotional materials.

17. Provides customer support, answers phones, registers customers for programs, responds to public inquiries, and resolves customer complaints in a timely manner.

18. Takes responsibility and ownership for accomplishing work, delivering results, and meeting the organization’s objectives.

19. Supports and maintains an inclusive work environment that respects diverse ideas, backgrounds, and styles.

20. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Experience:

· Four years increasingly responsible recreational programming experience.

· Experience coordinating a variety of recreation programs for youth and adults.

Required Education:

· Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in recreation, public administration, education or closely related field “OR” an associate degree and 2 plus years of “related” experience (i.e. programming and leading activities).

· Any combination of education, experience and training that provides the equivalent scope of knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to plan and execute Community Recreation programming for youth and adults.

Required Professional Licenses/Certifications:

· Certification in CPR, First Aid, blood borne pathogens, and AED (or obtained within 90 days of hire).

· Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP) credential preferred.

Knowledge/Skills:

1. Demonstrates active interest in continual learning to enhance and apply new functional skills.

2. Effectively applies a thorough knowledge of the organization and departmental policies, procedures, and regulations to all actions.

3. Performs multiple tasks simultaneously.

4. Assesses the work to be performed and sets appropriate priorities and realistic time parameters.

5. Prioritizes and organizes work plans based on objectives and desired outcomes.

6. Collaborates and shares responsibility for decisions and monitors progress toward goals by establishing strong feedback channels.

7. Ensures work is thoughtfully and professionally completed.

8. Assesses situations effectively and take initiative with minimal supervision.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

· The primary work schedule will be Tuesday through Saturday.

· Work is performed in an office environment, recreation facilities, and outdoors at various parks and properties.

· Some work will be performed in settings with exposure to varying environmental and weather conditions.

· Some local traveling will be required for meetings and visiting District facilities.

· The position will occasionally be required to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

· Prolonged periods of time may be spent using a computer, telephone, and other office equipment.

· This position will require seeing, talking, walking, standing, bending, and carrying.

· This position will require sitting for long periods of time and walking and/or standing is only required occasionally.

· Willingness to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends as dictated by District programs and special events.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $69,624.00 - $92,805.00 per year
