Job Summary
The Recreation Assistant I provides entry-level assistance to the Aquatics department by performing various duties. This position may greet customers, perform monetary transactions, register memberships, lead birthday parties and events, or assist with event set-up, management and breakdown.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Provides excellent customer service to the public (i.e.,patrons, vendors) and co-workers including responding to inquiries and requests, and resolving customer issues as necessary in a prompt, effective and courteous manner
Registers customers for memberships and aquatic programs by use of the recreation software program
Answers and directs telephone calls to proper departments
Attends staff training as necessary
Enforces facility policies, rules and regulations and assists in emergency protocol as required
Prepares daily reports as required by supervisor
Assists in sanitary operation of facility
Operates equipment safely and reports any unsafe work condition or practice to supervisor
Assists with storage and distribution of towels and resale merchandise
Assists key staff with set up and breakdown for organized events as necessary
Distributes facility related promotional materials
Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor

JOB REQUIREMENTS
Experience
Eligible to work in accordance with Department of Labor standards
Prior experience providing excellent customer service and handling money is a plus
Certifications/Licenses
Valid American Red Cross First Aid, CPR and AED Certification within 6 (six) months of hire required
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of community recreation as related to aquatics, including accepted standards, principles, and concepts within 6 (six) months of hire
Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with employees, customers, and the general public
Ability to enforce rules in an effective, tactful and courteous manner
Ability to work responsibly to complete daily activities according to schedule
Ability to multi – task and handle high volumes of business demands and service requests received daily
Effective, energetic, and dynamic customer service with the general public
Knowledge of cash operations and accounting principles
Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
