Hiring Range: $20.99 - $23.61 

Our Recreation team is looking for someone ready to make a positive impact for older adults, their caregivers and their families.  As the Recreation Assistant - Community Resources, you will be responsible for the day-to-day coordination of resources, information and referral services. 

You will also perform administrative, staffing and supervisory work as needed, when overseeing Erie's active lunch area. Our ideal candidate will be someone who can work with considerable independence within the scope of our established policies and procedures.

ANTICIPATED WORK SCHEDULE: 
This position will be scheduled, on average, 20 hours per week. We are currently looking for someone with availability for the following shifts: 

  • Monday - Wednesday: 1-4pm 

  • Thursday: 10am-4pm  

  • Friday: 10am-3pm 

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assistant Duties 

  • Assist at-risk and older adults, caregivers, and their families with community information and referrals or resources on programs and services available in the community 
  • Maintain confidentiality of information consistent with applicable federal, state, and county rules and regulations, and ensures the safety of guests and program participants by enforcing all rules and policies with staff and guests 
  • Oversee the senior nutrition meal program 
  • Plan, research, implement, purchase supplies, schedule, supervise, maintain program rosters, evaluate, assess current and future needs and trends and promote resource programs, services, partnership programs, and special events for older adults, their families, community members, and caregiver 
  • Assist in developing content for and operates registration and program-area specific software to meet organizational needs 
  • Maintain a variety of support groups addressing specific older adult issues and needs; assist each group facilitator with individualized needs for respective group 
  • Develop and maintain a resource library of services 
  • Communicates with patrons, staff, co-workers, supervisors, and volunteers to ensure smooth operations 
  • May assist with the preparation and hosting of meetings or appreciation events 
  • Complete a variety of paperwork including daily records, logs and incident reports 
  • Report issues or concerns with facility conditions, and policies to supervisory staff as needed 
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings and trainings 
  • Assist with recruiting, interviewing, training and scheduling volunteers and staff 
  • Remain composed and makes sound judgment in any emergency or non-emergency situation. Respond to emergency situations, administer first aid, CPR or other medical attention as needed, and complete incident reports 
  • Demonstrate outstanding internal and external customer service by upholding PEAK (Professional, Exceptional, Accountable, Knowledgeable) standards. Refers public to the appropriate Town contact 

Supervision Duties 

  • Assist with recruiting, interviewing, performing orientations, scheduling, and supervising volunteers 
  • Train and mentor volunteers to include creation of training materials and conducting meetings 
  • Promote positive working relationships amongst volunteers and facilitate conflict resolution strategies as needed 
  • Ensure all required volunteer certifications and trainings are completed 
  • Track and maintain volunteer hours to ensure ACA and labor law compliance 

Town Wide Expectations/Duties 

  • Serve as a professional ambassador of the Town by maintaining a professional image, a team-based collaborative approach and high ethical standards 
  • Inspect facilities and program areas to ensure a safe environment. Report safety concerns as needed. 
  • Interpret, communicate and enforce all Department, Town, County, State, and Federal policies and procedures within areas of program responsibility 
  • Complete all required safety trainings in a timely manner 
  • Develop and accomplish goals and objectives to support the Department and Town mission 

Other/Miscellaneous 

  • Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

Must be a minimum of 21 years of age. High School Diploma or GED preferred. Two years of combined related education and professional experience in case management or direct client assistance, specifically working with older adults, adults with disabilities and/or caregivers preferred. A combination of education and experience may be considered.  

 

Must successfully pass Criminal Background Check. 

 

ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Bilingual (English / Spanish) 
  • Bachelor's degree in related field 

 

CERTIFICATES/LICENSES/REGISTRATIONS 

  • Ability to obtain CPR, First Aid and AED certification within 3 months of hire 
  • Valid Driver's License and satisfactory driving record 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED: 

Knowledge of: To perform this job successfully, an individual must demonstrate leadership and communication skills and must possess knowledge of the principles, practices, trends and methods of recreational operations and programming in a community setting. Knowledge of guidelines and regulations related to Department, Town, County, State, and Federal policies and procedures also required. 

Skills in: Initiative and decision-making; verbal and written communication;, leadership, and interpersonal relationships; basic financial methods of recreational programming; outstanding customer service to a diverse population; administrative functions; time management, meeting deadlines, responding to internal and external requests in a timely manner; the use of standard office equipment, computers, and various software programs; positive and professional working relationships with all Town staff and the community; conflict resolution; comprehending instruction, correspondence, and policies and procedures; problem solving; remaining composed in emergency situations and working effectively under stressful circumstances; performing CPR, First Aid, and AED to level of certification. 

 

Environmental Factors: 

Work is performed in a standard recreational facility environment. Work may involve competing demands, and performing multiple tasks. 

 

Physical Factors: 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit or stand for extended periods of time and occasionally lift items of 30lbs or more.
