Job description

Summary:
Looking for a friendly, high energy individual who will be responsible for the efficient and courteous operation of the front desk in support of the Albany Humane Society's mission and goals.

Essential Duties:

Greets and assists customers in a timely and courteous fashion in person and by telephone, providing excellent customer service;

Answers incoming calls promptly and courteously, assisting and directing callers to the appropriate staff member or outside agency;

Provides information on AHS programs and services, including but not limited to, adoptions, fostering and owner reclaims.

Working with the Shelter Manager software to enter animal information, schedule appointments, process adoptions, owner reclaims and donations;

Counsels and educates the public and potential adopters regarding responsible pet ownership;

Handles cash transactions in an accurate and honest manner; provides receipts for all financial activity and assists with the daily reconciliation of the cash drawer;

Assists potential adopters by thoroughly screening both animals and customers to determine compatibility; accurately completes all necessary paperwork; charges applicable fees and provides all documents related to the animal transactions;

Works closely with City and County Animal Control Officers.

Maintains courteous and kind relationships with the local veterinarians and their staff.

Posting all adoptable animals and animals in need of foster care, to Albany Humane's social media pages.

Cleans and organizes the front office and lobby areas, including restrooms, keeping counters and files organized and free of clutter, also responsible for removing donations from the lobby areas as well as outside of the front door.

Secures the front office at the close of each business day. Turns on/off the computers and front office/restroom lights;

Participates in required staff meetings, sharing comments and suggestions that may benefit shelter operations;

Performs additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education/Experience:

A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) and two years of related customer service experience.

Language Ability:

Ability to read and interpret documents and procedure manuals. Ability to write reports and correspondence.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, sales tax, basic addition/subtraction.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Word Processing software and Internet software. Must be computer proficient.

Experience using Photoshop or Canva to optimize images for social media, email and websites.

Experience with email marketing and social media-based crowdfunding/fundraising preferred.

Work Environment:

In performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to fumes, airborne particles and animal diseases. The environment is moderately loud and the worker may be exposed to animal bites and/or scratches.

Physical Demands:

An employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 60 pounds without assistance.

The employee is regularly required to walk dogs; clean up after animals in our care.

The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
