The mission of healthRIGHT360 is to give people in need a chance for hope, change, and the tools to build a better life. We do this by providing compassionate integrated care that includes primary medical, mental health and substance use disorder treatment. The Admissions Department conducts all the screening and assessments for Withdrawal Management and Residential Services in San Francisco.
This is a remote position for a mental health clinician with the purpose of providing clinical justification for residents to receive residential substance use treatment. The position requires consultation with clinicians and excellent writing skills as well as the ability to work with a team to achieve deadlines.
Working under the supervision of the Authorizations Manager the authorization clinician functions as the liaison between intake services and other internal agency components as well as outside entities. Primary responsibilities include contributing to the creation/changes treatment authorizations and re- authorizations. Ensures that clients meet criteria for admission at our various programs and meets medical necessity as needed. Conducts client assessments to determine continued need for care and documents findings of assessment to be presented for re-authorization based on continued medical necessity. As needed, clinician will review assessments conducted by SUD clinical staff, provide feedback, and sign off as LPHA. The authorization clinician performs these duties in collaboration with program leadership and staff will ensure that clinical information is communicated as appropriate.
Key Responsibilities
Administrative/Coordinating Responsibilities: Provides liaison between the staff and other internal agency components and outside entities. Actively manages workloads and assignments to ensure productivity meets agency requirements. The expectation is that each LPHA provides several assessments daily, including but not limited to LOC's, and residential re-authorizations and 3.2 Withdrawal Management LOCS. Maintains the scheduling for assessments on MH Calendar and tracks completion of assessments. Ensures coverage for team e.g. assists staff in coordinating time off, ensuring coverage during the holidays and minimizing gaps in coverage due to required trainings etc. Assist to ensure timely correction of errors for staff relating to multiple EHR systems with a maximum turnaround time of 24 business hours. Authorization clinician will provide consultation as needed to AODs/LPHAs within the department. Adheres to metrics related to bed flow/utilization and county contract deliverables related to county contracts.
Direct Service and Individual Responsibilities: Conducts assessments, including but not limited to LOC's, residential re-authorizations and 3.2 Withdrawal Management LOCS. As needed, provides crisis intervention with referrals out to crisis support services. Provides support and psychoeducation about health and mental health problems that include screening clients for appropriate levels of services, assessments and referrals. Maintains confidentiality while working as part of a treatment team and adhering to intake norms. Consults with Residential Program Leadership and staff, participates in county/leadership meetings, coordinates integrated care with medical/MAT Clinic as needed. Attends staff and agency meetings. Participates in agency training as required. Complies with Board requirements for license registration/renewal of LPHA staff.
Documentation Responsibilities: Completes same day documentation of all assessments and services in Welligent and Avatar. Keeps a tracking log of referrals out to mental health program, clients who want withdrawal management only services and clients with approved residential authorizations.

Education and Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Education and Experience Required:
  • Must be a MSW, MFT, PCC or Psychologist from a regionally accredited graduate program in the field of Psychology or Counseling Psychology.
  • Experience with Welligent/AVATAR and other EMR systems.
  • Experience with Mental Health Medi-Cal procedures.
  • Familiar with Drug-medical organized delivery system.
  • Minimum two years of experience in dual diagnosis substance abuse treatment in an inpatient or outpatient community mental health setting.
  • Supervision experience in mental health or psychiatric setting with varied populations.
  • Demonstrated clinical paperwork and record keeping abilities.
  • Familiarity with trauma informed therapy models, cognitive-behavioral therapy, brief psychotherapy, ASAM assessment, and psycho-educational approaches.
  • Familiarity with working with psychotic and other severe mental health presentations.
  • Ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Clinical experience in performing risk assessment and crisis intervention.
Background Clearance:
  • Must not be on active parole or probation, clear with OIG database.
Knowledge Required:
  • Culturally competent and able to work with a diverse population.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, specifically Word Outlook and internet applications.
  • Experience working successfully with issues of substance abuse, mental health, criminal background, and other potential barriers to economic self sufficiency.
Skills and Abilities Required:
  • Ability to enter data into various electronic systems while maintaining the integrity and accuracy of the data.

Desired:
  • Knowledge of trauma, co-occurring disorders and substance abuse treatment.
  • Knowledge of Clinical documentation (treatment plans, progress notes etc.).
  • Experience working with criminal justice population.
  • Bilingual.
  • Familiarity with harm reduction models.
  • Knowledge of DBT, CBT, MI and trauma-based treatment highly desirable.
  • Clinical experience and understanding of issues related to HIV/AIDS and SUD treatment.
