Job description

The ideal candidates for these openings are adept at navigating the virtual workspace and have the ability to teach others to use technology and troubleshoot when necessary. They are highly organized, a strategic thinker, and are compassionate and adaptable in their approaches to problem solving while serving a diverse population of clients and partners. In addition, the ability to communicate effectively and clearly in both English and Spanish is required for these positions.

This opportunity is available to internal ESD employees only.

The Employment Security Department is hiring two project-based dual-language WorkSource Specialists (WSS4) to join the virtual services team in our Employment Connections Division! These roles work and meet with members of the community and assist them in removing barriers, finding gainful employment, and connecting them to valuable resources.

*These are both project positions with an anticipated end date of June 30, 2025 with the potential for further extension. At this time, funding is anticipated to be renewed.*

These positions support all WorkSource lines of business and will serve Virtual WorkSource customers. You will provide an array of virtual services to job seekers and employers that include RESEA, Live Chat, WorkFirst, and workshop facilitation. Both your ability to connect with customers virtually and communicate in both English and Spanish mean that WorkSource services are made accessible to more people in Washington that need them. The work you do in these roles contributes to healthy communities by providing people equitable access to resources that improve economic security and ensuring that everyone in Washington has full access to the opportunities, power, and resources they need to flourish and achieve their full potential.

Some of what you will do:

  • Conduct individual interviews to articulate program services and activities, identify components applicable to customer need, and develop recommendations for continuous engagement in both English and Spanish.
  • Determine eligibility and/or appropriateness for program, enroll and explain program participation requirements, and develop employment and training contracts and agreements based on applicable regulations, customer eligibility and assessment.
  • Record and maintain case notes, service plans, program-related expenditures, and exit outcomes in multiple data management systems.
  • Provide state-wide operation of Live Chat with connections and referrals that cover multiple programs, impacting customers statewide with services and technology.
  • Run reports and manage the needed improvements to the program.
  • Collaborate with WorkSource partners regarding enrollments, program guidelines, and training recommendations and negotiate and confirm customer eligibility when necessary.
  • Attend community meetings and events; represent the workforce partnership process; communicate and work closely with internal and external partners; be responsive to requests.
  • Coordinate resources with partners; communicate and promote agency and partner programs and services to encourage maximum utilization of available incentives.

About the Employment Connections Division:

Employment Connections (EC) is made up of three Lines of Business: WorkSource, Central Operations System Support, and Washington Service Corps (WSC). EC administers the Labor Exchange (LEX), Migrant Seasonal Farmworker (MSFW), Veterans Services, Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA), and WorkFirst programs for job seekers and employers in Washington and provides job seekers with referrals to our partners.

Required:

One year as a WorkSource Specialist 3 or equivalent class within the Employment Security Department, or another state's Employment Security agency

OR A Bachelor's degree and three years of relevant experience in workforce development, social or human resource services, public relations, or public contact work, such as: education, social services, public relations, human resource services, unemployment insurance, benefits programs, insurance claims, law enforcement and banking OR a combination of education and/or relevant experience.

OR A combination of education and/or relevant experience that totals seven (7) or more years.


Education to Experience Equivalences:

Associate Degree = 2 years | Bachelor Degree = 4 years | Masters or Higher = 5 years

Additional Requirement of Employment:

  • Must be able to pass an Unemployment Insurance (UI) Claim & Benefit Information Review.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively, in person, via telephone, and in writing in both English and Spanish.
