Job Summary:
- The Clinical Microbiologist works closely with Research & Development and pertinent lab members to develop and validate tests and experiments for clinical use, rapid and accurate molecular tests for infectious diseases. Their expertise in microbiology and qPCR techniques will contribute to accurate pathogen detection and analysis, supporting informed and actionable results.
Essential Responsibilities/Duties:
- Perform a range of microbiological (including susceptibility) and antimicrobial susceptibility tests in conjunction with molecular biology tests, with an emphasis on qPCR techniques for R&D studies and projects.
- Utilize laboratory equipment to run tests on bacteria, viruses and other microorganisms and record findings in detailed project reports.
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment to ensure accurate and efficient testing.
- Collaborate closely with interdisciplinary teams to develop and optimize study and assay protocols.
- Write and execute standard operating procedures to execute microbiology level work.
- Maintain the QC logs and safety procedure documents in the microbiology lab.
- Use MS excel, MS Access, LIMS or database to create study manifests and tests needed for an experiment or a project/study.
- Assist with staff training on microbiology and molecular procedures and techniques.
- Responsible for basic lab housekeeping tasks in the Microbiology R&D lab, such as ordering and stocking supplies, setting master cultures, and conducting equipment performance checks.
- Stay updated with emerging trends and breakthroughs in infectious diseases and clinical microbiology.
- Other R&D tasks as directed and delegated by VP, R&D.
Qualifications:
- Education –
Bachelor's degree or higher degree in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, or a related field
- Competencies/Skills –
- Expertise in microbiology and antimicrobial susceptibility testing including CLSI standard methods.
- Experience –
- Well versed with microbiological principles (including CLSI guidelines), laboratory procedures, and molecular techniques
- Proficient in data analysis and interpretation using relevant software.
- Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and record-keeping abilities
- Effective communication skills for seamless collaboration within a dynamic team
- Preferred –
- Previous experience in clinical or healthcare environments is a plus.
- Prior publication experience is desired.
- Experience with Next generation sequencing is a plus.
- MTor MLT or SM (ASCP) microbiology certification desired
