Railroad Switchman

• Monitors switch points to ensure switch is properly aligned
• Observes & monitors track conditions; broken rails, defective switches & weather-related issues
• Climbs equipment to set/release handbrakes
• Couples & uncouples air hoses between railcars
• Removes & replaces broken knuckles (75lb railcar connector)
• Rides moving cars via grab irons or ladders
• Observes, interprets & relays hand/lantern/other signals affecting movement of the train
• Judges & controls speed & clearance distance of cars

Requirements

• Valid Driver’s License
• Ability to lift 50lbs.
• Open availability (Shifts, Holiday, Weekends)
• Able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
• Willingness to complete a criminal background, drug screen and physical

• This role requires working outdoors. Are you willing and able to work primarily outdoors in all weather?
• This position requires standing for long periods of time, lots of walking. Are you willing and able to meet these requirements?
• If offered this position, you will have to take and pass a complete physical including audio and vision as well as a ten panel drug screen. Are you will and able to pass this requirement?
• If offered this role, you will have to pass a comprehensive background check (no felony convictions in last 7 years, not on parole or probation in last 7 years, completion of any court ordered restitution (not including traffic) at 7 years, if applicable, no theft convictions). Are you able to pass this requirement?
• This is working at the Railyard, open 24 hours a day/ 7 days a week, 365 days a years - including weekends and holidays. You will work weekends and holidays in this role. Is this acceptable to you?
• If offered this role, you will be working rotating scheduling: overnight 6PM - 6AM, and 6AM - 6PM, rotating days and nights. Are you available and willing to work this schedule?
