Position Summary: The School of Art in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville seeks a Lecturer in Art History for a one-year appointment beginning in Fall 2024. This is a full-time position with benefits. The salary is $51,500 for those with a Ph.D. and negotiated with ABD candidates. Benefits include insurance and retirement.

Position Responsibilities: The teaching load is 2:2. The lecturer will teach either ARTH 172 Western Art: Ancient through Medieval or ARTH 173 Western Art: Renaissance through Contemporary (capped at 100), which serves as part of the university’s general education curriculum, and an upper-division course in Early Modern European art each semester (capped at 30). The Fall 2024 assignment will consist of ARTH 173 and ARTH 453 Art of Southern Europe, 1575-1700.

The successful candidate will join a dynamic, nationally ranked faculty of Artists, art historians filmmakers, and ambitious undergraduate and graduate students. The School of Art offers BFA and BA degrees in Studio Art, a BA in Art History, and a BA in Cinema Studies. The School’s MFA program is consistently ranked among the best in the nation. The Ewing Gallery of Art Architecture is a professionally managed university gallery, funded jointly by the School of Art and the College of Architecture and Design. Qualifications:

Required Qualifications: The position is open to candidates with expertise in Early Modern European art. Ph.D. in Art History in hand by August 1, 2024, is desired, but ABD candidates will be considered.

Desired Qualifications: Candidates with significant experience teaching at the college/ university level are highly desired.
